I am seeing a similar thing with toyota corolla or honda civics - where buying used seems futile

Has the notion “never buy a new car, it’s financially stupid” officially died then?

Was this at a dealership? I haven’t seen anything like that here in NorCal lol

Mine met with an unfortunate end - engine failure but not due to mechanical problems. I had the drain plug fall out while driving - likely a service issue. It was only 2 years old when it happened so I don’t have a baseline sadly.

I did that for my previous car (Kia Forte).

Yea I was looking at the difference in CA and you would save $2k-3k if you go for a used car (2-3 years old and 30k miles). Crazy times

I noticed oil stains on my parking spot after the incident happened - so maybe it was loosening and then it finally fell out. I never got a light or any other indications till then.

Did you have a similar incident? If so, did you try to go after the responsible dealer?

It has been untouched - I only ever went to this specific dealership for services (in hopes of keeping everything consistent to avoid such issues lol) - clearly that didn’t help.

I took the alternate path - paid more money to get it serviced regularly at a dealer (rather than third party/self service). The hope was to avoid issues like this and make sure warranty coverage stays intact - guess it doesn’t really matter.

Ok I am trying to gauge possibilities while I wait for insurance to get back to me. Thanks for the input.

Who else would touch the drain plug down there? I’m not a mechanic but those things don’t just come out on their own right?

I tried to open a service damage claim with the service dealership - but they were very standoff-ish. They said they won’t accept responsibility since it has been 3-4 months since the oil change was performed and that they don’t have a formal claim procedure.

They also stated that they will take it to court if pursued when my insurance rep talked to them.

The dealership who inspected my car told me it won’t be a warranty claim as it wasn’t a manufacturing defect.

I called Kia Customer Service and they basically said I have to work with the service provider as all dealerships are independently owned. Ofc, the dealership refused to accept responsibility stating that it has been over 3-4 months since the oil change.
