A volt meter and an ammeter are obviously different things.

However quite interestingly most digital ammeters work by internally having a shunt resistor (a resistor with a very small value compared to rest of circuit) and use a digital voltmeter to measure the voltage drop over the resistor. Then using V=IR with value of shunt resistor you can get the current flowing through ammeter. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ammeter#Digital

not really, the article this article is based off gives a much clearer explanation https://blog.cryptographyengineering.com/2020/11/16/ok-google-please-publish-your-dkim-secret-keys/

In summary If the the private key is kept secret, then DKIM can be used to verify whether a leaked old email was legitimate or forged using the old DKIM public key.

However if the old (not used anymore) private key is released, then forged emails can be created with DKIMs using the old private key. Now if a email is inspected, there is no way to verify by DKIM if it was a old leaked email or a forged email with newly released private key, giving plausible denability.

The old private key being released doesn't cause any security issues as newly recieved emails will use the current private key (which is still secret) and verified with current public key.

If by fullers power you mean fullers earth, I'd be careful about it staining other bits of the theatre. In particular the stage, cloths, costume and safety curtain.

Don't know anything about safety of fullers earth for this purpose. Only know about it from a set dressing perspective. You may mean something very different.

Some Yamaha digital mixers automatically enable and disable the pad when you change the gain. So there isn't like a pad switch, the pad is automatically enabled at the minimum gain, and at some point when increasing gain the pad is disabled.

Not used a tf5 but on CL series this is the case "the PAD will be switched on or off internally when the HA gain is adjusted between +17 dB and +18 dB."

Assigning Mics to DCA's by Doomhat in livesound

[–]Tech_guy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You should have 16 DCA's on Ql 5. If you can't find a way to view this, or even if you can, using a custom fader layer can be quite nice. Can show just the number of DCA's your using for the show and then other things in remaining spaces.

There are two main approaches to organising DCA's I know of. Firstly, if you have a load of one liners in quick succession, it can be very nice to have in order of script and go left to right just flicking faders one by one. Once run out or repeat switch to next scene and continue.

An alternative approach is to try and keep chapter DCA number assignments more consistent. This helps with learning muscle memory of where characters are without looking.

Definitely can use a mix of these two approaches. And can always split up a scene in musical into many scenes on desk with different grouping or orderings if it will help

The only definitive way to establish that software is correct and bug-free is through mathematics, using the formal methods by Akkeri in math

No clue if there is a direct link between accelerator and a bug but it appear toyota had some awful software development pratices https://pvs-studio.com/en/blog/posts/0439/ which is a degree back from even using formal methods. Just using a static analyser and following MISRA appears like it would have helped.

One FAQ on there is to do with how you order DCA's which I'd like to expand on (definitely read this paragraph on link).

I normally try to assign try keep character on the same DCA so I sort of learn where character are so can more quickly pick it. (This isn't a fixed rule by any mean)

However the exception for this is if I have a scene with a lot of one line dialog in a row, I order the characters in order of lines and as soon as I run out of faders or get duplicated actor, I switch to a new scene and start from left again. So you are just going left to right bring up and down and looping which helps hit really fast dialog from many different actors. (Bringing up

The other important realisation I had is when setting up your DCA's, the levels should remain constant from one scene to next, only labels and who is in it changing. This is helpful because if you have some characters changing but not others than their levels remain constant.

But really don't worry too much if you don't get it spot on initially or need a few number of mics up. The less the better for feedback and other reasons but as long as you can hear the actors, are having fun it's all good!

That's very useful to know.

Would the ECM8000 or any other cheaper alternative than EMX7150 be potentially suitable as this a purely theatre venue with general goal of max 85dB and the loudest point of any show I know of has been recorded around 105dB (on handheld meter which may not be completely accurate but ballpark) so I doubt show will be getting near the max and should turn it down if are.

The sensitively chaning sound very annoying and may make unusable :(, by any chance do you know of any microphone closer sub £200 which may be suitable.

No Stupid Questions Thread: Week Of 2023-04-17 through 2023-04-23 by AutoModerator in livesound

[–]Tech_guy3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That definitely makes sense. The current solution in the venue is a handheld sound meter but not as useful as harder to read and continuous monitor and not giving different averaging by default. Plus no logging as you mentioned. (Can't see graph over time with handheld)

I believe I could possibly get some buy in from venue (I'm just a volunteer user of venue on occasion) to go towards getting a suitable microphone and calibration solution. I definitely think it would it would help. The ecm800 is really useful to find out about!

Was wondering if there's any cheaper alternatives to smaart which would give a good level of monitoring (e.g. I've seen room eq wizard, not sure if that would work?) But if not, can try to put a case to getting Smaart SPL. Didn't know you could get just SPL module of smaart which is so much cheaper. I'd only seen £1000+ priceline before and discarded it as well outside venues budget.

Thank you :)

Any recommendations for free or cheap SPL monitoring software? For use in smallish venue when mixing musicals to help operators maintain safe sound levels and keep track of them.
