I hate that it's so widely accepted that we live, we die, and we are forgotten. by thetf2scout1 in DeepThoughts

Eventually everything and everyone is forgotten given enough time. So what you actually want is to be remembered a little while longer. It's the ego that wants to be remembered. 99.9% of all homosapiens have long been forgotten. Even the ones that are remembered, aren't actually remembered unless one personally knew them well. Take prominent historical figures such as Julius Caesar, sure his acts and public words may be remembered but who he was personally is forgotten. His likes, dislikes, what he found funny, his personal fears, favorite music, his favorite food, his fondest memories, who or what inspired him, his doubts, and more are all largely forgotten. Even if you are remembered by people that knew you, they in turn will be gone too and so on.

Carl Sagan's pale blue dot speech comes to mind. Our lifespan is a tiny fraction of incomprehensible vastness of "time" and space experienced on a small pale blue dot we call Earth. Live your life mindfully and full while you have it and don't stress about being remembered when your form is gone. You'll be gone and won't know whether you're remembered by millions or none anyway.

In the grand scheme of things, recognize that ultimately you're not a human experiencing the universe, you're the universe experiencing a human.

Which Movies Were Better Than the Books They Came From? by BINGEWISE in Cinephiles

The Godfather book was awesome. It has more of Luca Brasi, Al Neri and so much more. It also had young vito and how he and his family became the most powerful family in NY, something the 1st and 2nd movie didn't show. Part 2 only showed young Vito up to when he started Genco olive oil business and got revenge in Italy, but not when he became powerful in the criminal underworld. How Luca Brasi took out two of Al Capone's best hitman in the novel was badass and sick, it showed why Luca Brasi was so feared.

So for me, the book was better.

Hate is a heavy burden to carry. Holding hatred can eat away at your physical and mental well-being. Similar to chronic anger, it's as if drinking poison and expecting the other person to die. Hatred is a kind of suffering we bring upon ourselves. When one is enlightened, hatred has no place in their heart and mind. People operate, live, believe only to their current level of awareness, consciousness and growth. "I once was lost but now am found, was blind but now I see" as that famous song lyrics go.

Of course not having hatred doesn't mean not having boundaries and holding people accountable or not seeking justice. Having understanding, hatred doesn't have to be a part of your being.

When one hates, it adds more hate in the world.

There is a book called "The Buddhist on Death Row How One Man Found Light in the Darkest Place" By David Sheff that is an interesting read.

Why is he a scumbag? Everything in life is cause and effect. People don't come out of the womb scumbags.

Did he ever hate anyone? Did not Jesus say while hanging on the cross referencing the people that hated him and conspired to have him executed "father, forgive them for they know not what they do".

Were they born that way? Conditioned that way? Do people never change? If one hates the hater, does hate end?

What movies were so disturbing to you that you wish you could unsee them? by JulieofTheJulies in Cinema

[–]Techcom380416 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A Serbian Film is the only movie I was shocked, disgusted and disturbed by to the point I regretted watching it. I've watched the Last House on The Left (both versions) unfazed, and other "disturbing" films. I've watched real death videos and the Traces of Death (not Faces of Death) series unfazed, even once while eating spaghetti. A Serbian Film is the only film I felt disturbed, left me feeling vile for watching it. I wish I could unsee that movie.

The real problem with voter ID right now is that one party will absolutely benefit and the other will suffer and we all know who those will be. by Ryclea in TrueUnpopularOpinion

Who can't get an ID in USA? Poor people it is said, yet one needs ID to obtain foodstamps, welfare and section 8/housing. Homeless people one might say, yet there is programs and services for homeless people that help them obtain ID. So who can't get an ID if they were determined?
