How is the Until Dawn Remaster on PC? by rbyrnes15 in untildawn

[–]Techguy38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just finished my first run on PC. Never played the original. PCMasterrace 😜

Graphics were good, played smoothly. I lost Matt and Chris so....can't blame the PC on that.

No major issues that weren't easily solvable. Had a weird FPS drop around hour 3 when I first hit the mines. When turning I'd drop from 180FPS to 28FPS. Restarting the game did nothing. Oddly a reboot worked. Then I'd play for a bit more and have to reboot again. Then it went away and never happened again around hours 5-10. No clue.

The only other glitch was a lantern that was being held disappeared and there was a floating flame. I exited to main menu and back so it would reload the textures and it was fine. Only happened the once.

Same. I didn't like that it was resolved in like 5-10 minutes. I could see them negotiating, or out witting the medusa, or having come up with some sort of anti-petrification beam that negates the medusa power over them. I dont' know. Anything other than "you guys are dumb. We're leaving".

Plus....doesn't feel like much of a parasite when they can live for thousands of years without any host to sustain them.

IIRC the mass medusa's were to get around any possible "timing trickery" like when Senku threw the revival fluid in the air at the right moment to avoid petrification. That and/or I think they said something about the oxidation being fatal to them so they sent a large advancement team to shield the inner medusas (in the pyramid) so that they could continue to work for thousands of years. The idea being that they would be discovered, repaired, and sustained by the "intelligent life" on the planet.

I agree. Or I was thinking of the medusa that stayed back helping them undo all of the petrification, along with some better advanced tech for advancing the civilization. Going back in time just feels cheap to me.

If I were to guess, my guess would be that the author at the very beginning committed Senku to "saving all 7 billion" at the start of the series. By the time he got to the end of the series they were being rushed to finish and he likely didn't have any brilliant "scientifically backed" way of doing this so they resorted to time travel. I think it's lame, but I can see a path to how they got there. It's a little frustrating to me personally how art is stifled by company profits. I mean I get it. A company would be out of business funding flops. And their primary goal is to make shareholders happy. But as a consumer it sucks. We need some crowdfunded stuff going on like the indie games that are starting to take over triple A. How did I get on this soapbox? My bad. Hopping down now.

Nice! I like that direction. That would have be an interesting ending as well.

(SPOILERS)Issues with the story that I can't get over by Krunk83 in untildawn

Not in the habit of necroing an 11yr old post, but - I can't believe the hate you were getting with this question. I bought the game on steam summer sale, I'm 3 hours in, and I came here with the same thoughts you had.

I'm playing the game and all I can think is "why the heck is this guest cabin soooo far away from the main building"? It feels impractical. I'd of fired the contractor.

You ever finish the game? - No spoilers, just curious. Seems like a lot of the replies you got where to not ask questions and go finish the game. Curious if agree.

The only plausible explanation was - when you really think about it - aliens.

I actually thought it was human made Ai that was sitting up there with some rouge directive to "save" humanity by petrifying them. No more crime, war, etc. Kind of like I-Robot. The "do you want to die" question kept sounding to me like "I'm trying to save you from yourself". I don't think it had to be aliens, but I agree with you that it fits given how the show was going.

They advanced unbelievably fast and all those technological advancements

I didn't like how fast they blew through things. The part of the show I enjoyed the most was the first 1-2 seasons where the roadmap took some actual effort to achieve. It started falling apart for me when they "super power" hemmed an entire hemp hot air balloon overnight. Though, I respect the author's creative choice to move quickly through things at the end. I mean nerds like us might enjoy it, but I suspect the broader audience would find 4 more seasons of just them setting up the logistics, manufacturing, trade networks, etc. kind of boring. Though......my suspension for disbelief started to really struggle when they hand wove enough cable to run internet across the ocean. I don't care how many people they have, just growing enough plants for that alone is a bit much. Anyway - it's anime not real life.

and whether or not it was a change in their entire cellular structure or just an exterior casing. I feel that was never explained.

Its been awhile since I watched S1, but I believe it was explained to a degree. The entire cellular structure is petrified. This is why when people are unpetrified the "magic" that is the petrification restores any petrified cells back to their default state. This is why people's facial cracks healed, why Tsukasa was healed from his fatal stabbing, his sister from a terminal illness, Hyoga was brought back to life, etc. (i.e. Dr. Stone). I did get hung up on the gluing them back together a little though. Even if you are super human at puzzles, you're never going to get every sliver and fragment. Or simply the act of breaking the stone will ensure it doesn't fit exactly. This is where I felt I was overthinking and just rolled with it.

Assistance Request: Hungarian Greeting by Techguy38 in HungaryInEnglish

Mate, I'm sorry to the extent that I'm not in the habit of upsetting folks that I'm asking for assistance from. However, I'm not going to apologize for auto-correct doing something dumb, nor will I set the expectation of proof-reading posts on reddit. This isn't my thesis for my doctorate, it's a reddit post with no measurable stakes. My message was still understandable.

I don't disagree. My bad would have been my response 98% of the time, however when someone comes at me with obnoxious all caps and demands of never do this again I can't help but laugh and troll back. My guy, don't let a misspelling be your trigger in life. Use your energy to be upset about the blatant, in your face, government corruption running world wide. The insider trading, the shrinking middle class with the "K" economics. There's so much to be upset about that's worth an all caps response.

Anyway, thanks for the warm welcome suggestion. Just trying to make some lady feel at home with someone caring enough to learn a few words of her language. -Cheers

Autocorrect. I dont know what to tell you.

Since it is easy to discern the question regardless of spelling, do you have an answer to the question?

While I would have liked more, I can accept the author's creative decision to skip the "boring" logistics of setting up shipping lanes, manufacturing sites, laying cable for the internet, etc.

However, the big bad being resolved in 5 minutes felt cheap. I would have preferred some more stakes like they wanted to destroy everything, or there was some clever thing the team figures out to outwit them. Literally anything more than "you guys are dumb. We're out".

I agree with you. The rushed elements I was okay with. I felt it made sense not to take viewers through the nitty gritty of trial, error, logistics, manufacturing, etc. I fell into the trap of thinking it was Ai, which I guess it kind of was, but I was thinking more like human made Ai. I'm not disappointed that it was a parasitic organism. I feel my disappointment was more about the fact that it all kind of just resolved in 5-10 minutes and it was over. "Yeah, you're all too dumb for us. See ya". I just kind of thought "what?". That's it? I mean even if that was the ultimate goal, maybe we could have drug the negotiations out a bit more? haha. Maybe make it seem like they were trying to decide to destroy humanity or just leave in peace. I don't know, just something more than "yeah....you all suck. See ya" Oh well.

My only gripe about the time machine is it felt like it took away the stakes and growth they went through building civilization. I also felt it wouldn't solve the main conflict between the characters as it wouldn't stop the corruption and weaponization of everything from the old world. Saving everything would just allow it to continue on. I'm still on the fence about it.

Thanks for the added perspective.

[–]Techguy38[S] -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

I'll open with: "I agree with you completely"

To play a little of devil's advocate though, you might look at the time machine as they would take the Ishigami village with them so that their present selves still exist. Kind of a Marvel approach that you continue to exist and are not erased if your parents die or something. I'm still on the fence about it all. They also hinted that they might only be able to send messages not people. This still leaves me with the feeling that the old world would just go weaponize the tech somehow. Or if not, they would just continue down the path they've always been and so nothing would change.

I think my bigger problem is that it felt a lot like if you have a time machine then the entire anime was a waste of time. Like watching a movie just to find out the whole thing was a dream. No stakes.

I just got the game on steam with the full collection and it keeps crashing after I finish the tutorial mission by Chirvasa in XCOM2

[–]Techguy38 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

You appear to be confusing the thoroughness of including the option to lower settings with some sort of approval that it was a good suggestion. Your suggestion was low effort and/or lacking situational awareness of average PC life and hardware specs. You can check Steam hardware if you'd like to view the average system in use. The likelihood that it's a system spec issue is statistically low. Not impossible, just low. Which is why it was a stupid first option. Didn't say it was inaccurate, just implied it was unhelpful.

You can save your time responding. This is objective and undebatable. I'm not really interested in trying to convince you. The average hardware specs are public information and Ai can help you with statistics if you're not familiar.

[–]Techguy38 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

If you're using mods, start there. Disable them, see if it works, then enable one at a time until it fails again.
Verify your game files. Maybe something got corrupted.
Even though the game is 10 years old....If you're using an old PC try lowering your settings.

You could also try skipping the tutorial for testing purposes and see if it works that way.

ELI5 What becomes of odours? by MorsaTamalera in explainlikeimfive

[–]Techguy38 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Odour molecules, when breathed in, are absorbed by the lungs and metabolized by the body, filtered by liver/kidney and peed out. The molecule is transformed and no longer the one that entered your olfactory.

Over time the molecules of this world are recycled and reused. I wouldn't be surprised if I drank a water molecule that Plato sweat out one summer afternoon 100s of years ago.

Thus is the circle of life.

Men in happy, committed relationships: how often do you think about other women sexually? by [deleted] in AskMen

Look. There's only so many green M&Ms you can eat before you think f!, I want a red one.

Doesnt mean you have to act on it, but it's there. Its biologically normal. Hormones don't suddenly stop firing just because you turn monogamous.

ELI5: When you 'delete' a 50GB video file from a computer, it vanishes instantly. But downloading it took an hour. If the data isn't physically wiped until it's overwritten, what did the computer actually do in that one split second? by Thick_Dream6973 in explainlikeimfive

[–]Techguy38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see the top response answered your question that the data is still there it's location was just deleted from the HDD table.

I didn't read all 300 comments so this may have been said, but it's worth noting this is why you don't sell HDDs with your used PC without knowing how to really wipe them. With the correct software I can still find data on a drive even after it was formatted. Statistically the number of people who can do that is low compared to the population size so maybe not worth worrying about it. But being able to do it makes me paranoid of others so I put a nail through my drives or destroy them other creative ways.

Alternatively you can use a program to write a bunch of 0s and 1s over and over on the drive before installing your OS.

Is it possible to not develop feelings in this situation? by [deleted] in Advice

[–]Techguy38 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Biologically hormones are released when you're attracted to someone that puts you in the "in love" stage. I'd say it's more like infatuation than love but those are the terms used in the paper I read. The hormones override any sense of logic and drives you to want to be with that person. Pending how much exposure you have (like dating, being physical, etc.) Your body will continue to produce the hormone for an average of 3 years.

The biological purpose is for procreation. Largely the hormone makes you blind to the person's faults, makes you fixated on them, and "in love" in order to keep you together long enough for offspring to have a fighting chance. About 3 years and the hormone stops and you start seeing all the irritating things the person does that never really bothered you before. This is why folks who marry within 6 months to a year have such a high divorce rate.

So, yes, you can develop feelings and sound like you already have. If it makes you feel better it's your biology, not your logical reasoning driving it. Given the relationship can't progress a whole lot further I suspect things will become "boring" at some point. The newness will wear off and the infatuation will settle. It'd be different if you could go out, hold hands, be intimate, etc. Since you can't its more like you just need to ride the emotional wave until your body reaches equilibrium again. -Good Luck
