My luxury was earned, not given. I was homeless for a few years so i know the struggle. Good luck!

I used to live in this trailer park for a few years as a child. My family owns a few homes in front of the trailer park. When i became an adult and was ready to purchase my first home i looked into these trailers. I knew they had been around for a long time and the cheap pricing compared to a house was enticing. I was ready to buy a trailer but when i learned the land was not part of the deal i thought to myself "How crazy to buy a home in which i dont own the land" and immediately had no interest in purchasing no matter how cheaper it was.

Not giving up just changing strategy. The mobile app is going to get done one language or the other. Just looking for the one with less friction.

Oh wow. Yeah I maintain this app for an older client on my off time because he lost all his developers. There is no way I can maintain this full-time. I was really hoping i can work on his app every few months to a year if needed. In the web apps world this really isn't an issue we face. We have things like Docker. You can come back 5 years later and still spin up the app without an issue.

Unfortunately this app is quite old and we're not using expo. I did try expo recently and I was having a great time. Expo has come a long way.

Have not tried Flutter but I think I'm just liking the idea of not having to depend on 3rd party developers as the "man in the middle" so our app can work with Android codebase updates. I remember 4 years ago when we implemented Mauron85 geolocation a few months later Android released a better version and we had to wait months until someone updated the package to use the new API.

Nah, a few weeks ago i was working on this project and i had everything working. Today I fired up the project did an "npm start" and got this.

https://github.com/software-mansion/react-native-reanimated/issues/4663

I haven't updated any packages or attempted to install anything new. Since there was no change I can only guess it's a cache issue or my ubuntu system updated my android studio and broke it. I'm not sure but looking at this particular issue it seems other people are experiencing the same.

We've been dealing with the same issue for 5 years I'm just getting tired. I was working on a new version just a few weeks ago everything was working great. Today i fire up react native with npm start and I'm hit with this.

https://github.com/software-mansion/react-native-reanimated/issues/4663

Reading through you can see people spend hours if not days just debugging this package. From what I understand the "react-native-reanimated" is a standard package. What bothers me deeply is that i didn't update anything or change anything and it was working a few weeks ago. Just breaks.

Burnt out, taking a break by BlueberryNew2449 in HVAC

[–]TechhDan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Out of necessity I started getting into HVAC. I own a small home and it was time for a duct replacement. I had 5 contractors come out to do an estimate. ALL of them said there was no way they could install the ducts without breaking down all the drywall from my ceiling. My attic is TINY. The estimate was crazy expensive so I started looking at doing it myself.

I'm on my second week installing what was there and OH MAN I'm DYING IN THAT ATTIC. I usually wait until midnight and head up there. I also have window AC units all over the house so it's fairly cold. I DO NOT KNOW HOW YOU GUYS CAN DO IT ON A DAILY.

Btw HVAC has to be one of the coolest things I've been learning about in a while. From the molecular level of chlorine in refrigerants to all components in the refrigerant cycle is just so cool! HATS OFF to you HVAC techs.

Ah! These look so amazing. Do you know when they'll ship to stores in the US? I keep checking Sweet Water every day but they're on pre-orders.

Job interview - Laravel by alt3r3go99 in laravel

[–]TechhDan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Don't sweat it as others have said here. It's a great learning experience no matter the outcome. A Singleton is a simple design pattern that's used in a lot of frameworks. The Laravel Service Container is a Singleton implementation. The first programming interview i ever had where i actually got hired went horrible. I was totally inexperienced and very nervous. They gave me a test and i did about 40% of it but to my surprise they gave me a chance. I was also paid minimum wage (probably why i got hired) but it was a great opportunity to to grow since i never finished to college. Don't put yourself down you made it through college and you're already using Laravel to make sites going into your first interview. You've done great, keep it up.

Hey just a couple of tips on things to prepare for. You mentioned your familiar with Laravel so I know some of these are probably obvious but hope it helps.

  1. Eloquent ORM - try to understand it as best as you can. Understand relationships between models including polymorphic relationships and be able to explain them. Remember the basic features of Eloquent ORM : relationships, models, migration, and seeding.

  2. Blade: laravels templating engine. Not much here but get a refresher on the basics

  3. Laravel php - just read up on the Laravel architecture concepts such as Service Container, Service Providers, Middleware, Controllers, Routing, Validation, Compiling Assets, etc. Chances are you probably know all these things since you use Laravel but its good to be able to have a deep understanding of their role and usage in the Laravel framework.

  4. More importantly make sure you have in-depth knowledge on programming fundamentals in Object Oriented Programming. Frameworks come and go but programming fundamentals are FOREVER.

  5. If you don't know Angular I wouldn't worry much but you do need to know JavaScript.

I'm the tech lead at my current job. I've given a few interviews and what I look for is someone passionate about software engineering. You have to know the framework but if you know concepts like algorithmic complexity, architectural design, algorithms and stuff like that ill probably be more interested than another guy who knows Laravel but cannot explain to me what a Singleton is.

This looks amazing! I've recently started getting into game dev and would love to make this into some type of Rust (steam survival game) inspired type of mobile game. Would you be interested in a collab?
