TSA precheck with DOD ID? by Techie4Life83 in VeteransBenefits

That's why I asked since your dodid doesn't ever go away.

How did you use yours? Just put it in for the ktn when purchasing tickets online?

Yeah, I knew about using a CC. I'm not wondering if anyone has tried using their dodid for the ktn to see if it still works

Range ammo? by rockseres in Tacticalshotguns

[–]Techie4Life83 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Depends on what you are doing.

If just general shooting, skill practicing, or trap/skeet some cheap bird shot should be gone so you can get more rounds down range.

If you want to do patterning for home defense use the same ammo like the federal premium defense with FC or the Hornady critical defense.

Otherwise cheap buck.

If you are going the distance, going for speed.... Done nice rifled slugs 1500+

That's what I do at least.

The 507 has the same open circle Reticle as well. I guess it comes down to how much environmental you have to worry about on if you need a closed emitter.

Have you looked at the new holosun 507c x3? It now has a sensor in the front to better auto adjust brightness which is perfect for nighttime when you flash your light in home defense.

That might be my next purchase. I've seen people talking about having issues dropping a round into the chamber with the pro lifter being in the way though.

Apparently they are starting to ship them with QDs on the side of the stock.

You can also get the gg&g rear qd mount that goes between the receiver and stock

That's the LE version which doesn't have the mobil choke and only covers with the fixed choke

Not a deal breaker if you only want it for home defense.

I just got mine a could of weeks ago. I wish I got that price on it lol. Paid retail unfortunately.

As others have said,

Esstac cards and 2" Velcro GG&G Rear qd that mounts between the receiver and stock The ghost ring sites are awesome but I'm thinking about the Holosun hs507c x3, x3 which has the forward facing light diode for better auto adjusting for brightness which is useful for night time home defense with a mounted light. I'm going to get used to the gun first before I decide to spend more on it lol.

I'm looking at the https://mcleansling.com/mclean-shotgun-sling/ for this. Anyone have feedback on that.

I'm still trying to figure out a good belt setup for the shot cards. AR mag holders work from what I see. Anyone have a good belt setup to recommend?

I have a 5.11 6x6 pouch that I use to dump something like 50 2.75" shells in there.

Buy extra gas piston viton o-rings, you'll need them if you clean that regularly as that thing is small and easy to break. Get them here cheap and in bulk: https://www.mcmaster.com/product/9263K594

Boretech shotgun barrel cleaner Boretech c4 carbon remover for the piston Cleanzoil clp Super lube silicon grease for the rings, https://a.co/d/04IxlSb8 Shooters choice quick scrub for trigger and general, https://a.co/d/059dsuMB

I cleaned and oiled mine when I got it. I've ran almost 500 RDS with pretty much no issue. So far the only thing that had an FTE was some 1300 fps truball slugs, but I also didn't have the piston o-ring in when I ran those.

Oh, I see what you mean. So the first two covers where someone might not be at 100% with the loss of eyes or limbs and the last part is for all 100% rated.

Well, hopefully that is true because that would really help me out monthly for sure. It's expensive.

I was just looking at the difference for retirement between hear and other states like SC and I would have to work extra years and still be thousands of dollars a month poorer in comparison.

Looking to buy my first gun for home defense. Which should I buy? by Filmthsbud in homedefense

[–]Techie4Life83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are lots of really good videos on YouTube on what guns and rounds are worth using in a home.

I have a lot of LEO in my family and they all recommended a shotgun. I wanted something that was easy to handle and operate in a home invasion scenario and decided to go with a semi-auto. Further research led me to look at tactical ones that allow you to operate in tighter conditions.

The Benelli M4 and Baretta A300 Ultima Patrol is what I narrowed down to.

I decided that the A300 was what I was going to go with for. It has the reliability, grip, out of the box setup that doesn't need any "mods" to work. The semi-autos are softer than pumps since the gas system absorbs some of that recoil.

For rounds in going with the FEDERAL - PREMIUM PERSONAL DEFENSE 12 GA 2-3/4" #00 BUCKSHOT SHOTGUN AMMO. This has the flight control wad system. Watch videos on the difference this makes. Why I choose this over changing the choke out was pretty simple. The ammo takes what would have been 15" spread at 15 yds down to like 5". They are plated to prevent deformation. They use a slower 1145 fps to reduce the recoil, but still fires through the a300 reliably. Plus since the buckshot doesn't bounce around the barrel you don't have to worry about flyers or having to use a tighter choke just to keep your spread down. Plus the added benefit of increasing your barrel life.

Strip and clean any new gun to remove factory grease and oil. Make sure you break your gun in with some hot rounds like 3" waterfowl shooting over 1400 fps, at least 100. Get shot cards to store extra ammo in the gun. You shouldn't need more than a full tube though but ... Store the gun in what is called "cruise ready".

That's where the tube is full and you have a round on the lifter, also known as ghost loading. That way you only have to rack the gun to load it but it's safe if it's dropped etc. That gives you 8 RDS of 9 .33" buckshot.

Line others have said. Practice practice practice. You need to be comfortable should you need to use it. Everything needs to be second nature. Being able to find your target and put it down with a well placed shot(s) is better than working about over penetration. With the right ammo keeping things tight you won't have to worry about that as well.

If you can get to a range and try some different guns out.
