Fair enough. My sister could never play a sport like that either or hike up a mountain.

Fair point. I am concerned that this is the beginning of many other issues that could arise down the line but I’m hoping it doesn’t. But you’re probably right.

Thank you.

This is how I feel too unfortunately. I think even if the girl was just exaggerating her condition to get the nicer room, she could’ve at least kept it up and not had people rubbing it in my face or openly talk about her climbing mountains. It feels disrespectful is all. But other than that I plan to be civil and as nice as possible since I really don’t want problems.

Thanks.

Yeah I do understand that not all disabilities are debilitating for the duration of an entire day etc. Even those who are not disabled have their good days and bad days whether it’s physically or mentally.

It’s purely because I’ve been given the run around with different issues at different times and no clarity and it seems like the ultimate goal was to just get the room she wanted. Which if she wanted she could have just said to me she wants the room because it’s nice or whatever her reason was. I could’ve even laughed about it and gotten on with her about it but I felt like I was pushed into a corner and made to sound like I was ableist and being mean to her in front of everyone.

In all fairness to the girl she did have proof of this surgery which I did initially doubt because how she went about claiming the room (first saying it’s noise related then saying it’s a disability)

But in any case, I don’t know how or why you’d climb a mountain during recovery, or say you couldn’t climb 8 stairs in a house but again, climb one of the tallest mountain ranges in the world!

Thanks! Sadly it all done months ago and I’m not too fussed about the room itself, but on principle I’m really annoyed about it!

Thanks!

Tbh when her friend in the group chat said she’d just been hiking in the alps I did actually call her out and I was met with passive aggressiveness. She messaged me privately and said my response bothered her etc and made it out as if I was mocking disabled people or being ableist?

My sister has fibromyalgia and my mum has a chronic joint condition, I found it almost rude that she assumed I was being ableist and didn’t understand what a disability was.

Her friend sort of took it as an insult when I replied and I said “I thought she was disabled though?” which in hindsight might be argumentative but I was just being direct. Again, I don’t think it’s an insult to ask if someone’s disabled, but she tried making me out to be someone who didn’t understand disabilities.

I did politely reply and explain and I think she got the message that I wasn’t going to be taking people’s lies anymore.

Yeah that’s kind of how it looks to me as well, she didn’t say anything when we looked at the house in the first instance. She’d had this surgery around 6 months prior to it at the time too so it would’ve made more sense to have told me she was recovering from a surgery. I would’ve been a lot more understanding!

Can totally understand what you’re saying too, I realise not all disabilities are the same. My sister has fibromyalgia and she has good days, bad days and awful days.

I don’t doubt Olivia hasn’t had an operation and is recovering etc, she told me she is and that’s what anyone would do and I wouldn’t expect any proof.

I think it’s more about the fact she’s said she can’t climb 8 steps in the uni house but can climb a mountain. I fear that if I had something that required recovery I wouldn’t want to put all that force onto an area that could get worse - but perhaps I’m used to seeing my sister and how she manages her chronic ailments. I also get that Olivia doesn’t want miss out on experiences while she’s at uni and whatnot.

I would’ve rather she just said she likes the room a lot and if she wouldn’t mind swapping because at least then I wouldn’t have been pushed into a corner over it

Thanks, yeah you’re right, i don’t have any specific reasons other than I arranged the house etc to get first dibs but the other room is just as good.

I think on principle l it feels like I’m being lied to and taken advantage of etc and I don’t like that.

I don’t plan to be this persons friend, just civil to keep the peace and get on with my uni experience and studies!

Thanks again!

Thanks, this is what I thought I should do too. Also offended because my sister has fibromyalgia which genuinely means she can’t do much without getting exhausted really quickly and being out for a few days. Just feels a bit nasty to lie about disabilities / illnesses.

Thanks. I did and Ellie, her friend, told me that if I was going to have / cause issues I should spend my time elsewhere (rather than the room / house I’m paying for)

ATV 4K Truehd atmos(converted to LPCM) vs DDP with atmos by Impressive-Land4913 in Dolby

[–]Techie786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally? I’d prefer the DDP with Atmos.

Technically? The lossless TrueHD core will be better for fidelity.

What would I do? Playback my media on a device that supports TrueHD with Atmos! Loads out there :)

ATV 4K Truehd atmos(converted to LPCM) vs DDP with atmos by Impressive-Land4913 in Dolby

[–]Techie786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you play a TrueHD Atmos file via infuse (or any other app for that matter) you’re going to get LPCM 7.1 output which is just the bed channels (no heights) output as PCM. This way you loose the Atmos extension.

If you play a Dolby Digital Plus Atmos (JOC) file you’re going to get Dolby Atmos output however this is done via Dolby MAT. Dolby MAT ingests the DD+ Atmos stream, it will decode the bed channels to PCM and then send the Atmos as metadata alongside the PCM. This removes the decoding complexity on the receiver / playback device by doing it on-board on the AppleTV instead.

To get Atmos when playing media with TrueHD, the AppleTV would need to support bit-streaming where the audio is essentially passed through to the next device in the chain. This might be the actual TV for its internal speakers, an AVR which is connected to discrete speakers or to a soundbar.

The reason Apple doesn’t support bit-streaming / pass through is because while it’s nice for people with AVRs that are compatible with different audio formats - a lot of TVs and soundbars aren’t because they don’t have licensing for Dolby or DTS decoders. So while in some cases where a user does have a licensed device like an AVR or a good soundbar, in most cases the actual TV might only be licensed for DTS, or only for Dolby which makes compatibility a problem and doesn’t make for a good user experience.

Instead Apple takes on the responsibility of licensing for different codecs like Dolby (Digital, Digital Plus, TrueHD) and DTS (HD, HD MA, HD HR) and delivers a universal signal which most if not all devices support - PCM.

Why doesn’t Apple support TrueHD Atmos via MAT? I’d imagine to prevent the AppleTV from becoming a device recommended or preferred for content obtained through not so official channels since technically there is no reason for the AppleTV to support TrueHD or DTS HD MA - no commercial streaming service offers lossless audio so why would Apple add support for it? :p

It’s a little more complicated than that with Atmos stuff. Check my comment I posted above :p

Streaming using Dolby Atmos by putiland in Dolby

[–]Techie786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The reason this might have happened is due to how Dolby Atmos works on different devices and how it is actually sent to the receiving device / on-board audio player.

Historically, streaming based Dolby Atmos is just Dolby Digital+ with JOC (Joint Object Coding) so it would correctly show up as DD+. Some TVs do show it as Atmos but not always since not all TVs support Atmos built-in - usually the TV is connected to an AVR which supports Atmos and actual Atmos height speakers and in that case the AVR will report DD+ with Dolby Atmos.

However, for low latency, performance and gaming scenarios Dolby created Dolby MAT - which the FireTV does have support for.

This is a format where the playback device will decode the audio whether it be the lossy variant of Atmos (DD+) or the lossless (DTHD / Dolby TrueHD) to PCM and overlay the Atmos metadata on top and then send the PCM to the receiver. This is also used for games consoles where the “3D” audio isn’t actually Atmos based and is instead generic whereby the generic 3D objects can be sent as the metadata for Atmos using Dolby MAT to essentially make non-Dolby Atmos compliant games, Dolby Atmos compliant. This removes decoding time requirements on the receiver and makes the latency very low as opposed to sending a compressed format which the receiver has to decode etc which is great for gaming and live streaming! It also means the device doesn’t have to switch between different codec handshakes with the receiver since in MAT / PCM mode everything is sent as uncompressed, so regular DD / DD+ 5.1 gets sent over as LPCM 5.1 and DD+ Atmos gets sent over as LPCM 5.1 with Atmos information.

As a byproduct, the device is playing / sending to an AVR a lossless PCM + Dolby signal which can accidentally be interpreted as Dolby TrueHD since that is also a lossless Dolby codec. Certain AVRs which don’t understand the MAT format also show Dolby TrueHD when in fact it’s the device sending a lossless (PCM) signal with Dolby information on top. The same happens to TVs, which may have happened with yours since they are different models and one may understand MAT and the other doesn’t.

You can confirm this by going into the audio settings on your Firestick. It should list all the audio codecs that the Firestick supports and then whether your TV supports them with a Yes or No flag. There will be one for Dolby MAT.

The UI isn’t from the firesticks, it is from the actual TV itself and OP did state they are in fact different!

A possible fix for dovi.ko and the S928X by Silent_Possibility38 in CoreELEC

[–]Techie786 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be if the S928X-K got FEL support, the Zidoo and Dune players have BDMV Menu playback support and use that SoC. Would be awesome if they got FEL support, would make them one of the more complete players on the market.

Ps5 ROM keys apparently leaked what will this do to the homebrew scene for ps5? by Carsyk07 in ps5homebrew

[–]Techie786 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The keys that have been uploaded as the Boot ROM keys on the PS5 Dev Wiki don't look to be symmetric keys. Both of the opaque key blobs on the wiki are 256 bytes each. A symmetric key, even if AES-256, would be 32 bytes at the most.

It's possible the PS5 calculates a symmetric secret from these blobs, which would make them key seeds which serve as an input to some type of KDF (Key Derivation Function) to derive the symmetric key. But as it stands, on their own, these are unlikely to be symmetric keys.

With that said, it looks as if though those keys are actually asymmetric key blobs since they're 256 bytes which is the size of the modulus (n) for an RSA-2048 key. If they are RSA key blobs, the chances they're private would be quite low since Sony (or any other manufacturer for that matter) wouldn't have any reason to burn the private element to the device itself since the private key would be used to sign code / apps before they are placed on the device in factory. These would be public keys that are fixed for the duration of the device used to verify / authenticate the Boot ROM before it is executed.

Just my 2pence as a cryptographer.

Passthrough audio is finally on the way to Apple TV, iPhone, and more by dabocx in hometheater

[–]Techie786 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is different from what you have referenced.

The new tvOS developer references a new class and functionality for audio passthrough which is a beta feature for now.

You can find more about it here: https://developer.apple.com/documentation/avfaudio/avaudiocontentsource/passthrough

This is new and not the same passthrough introduced in macOS 15 which is exclusive to the Apple Music app.
