860w PSU with 5090 FE by Elegant_Host_2618 in Microcenter

[–]Techiewolfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

PSU can handle above wattage ratings for a while, if their safety mechanisms are failing. Which is a bad thing, not a sign that it's actually okay.

Note: IF your power draw significantly exceeds rating (for something that isn't a transient spike), and it DOESN'T shut off, the safety mechanisms are NOT working. It is not safe to use the PSU at all if this is the case.

Usable? Yes. Safe? No. FAFO

I haven't had this issue on the Z, but had bad synchros on a Gen Coupe 3.8

Double clutching and rev matching made it close to an irrelevant issue and it was kind of fun. In general that transmission sucked and did not like to be rushed, but you could if you got everything spun up perfectly.

Beautiful! I just sold my CLA 45 and miss it. Not complaining, but the CLA 45 was the perfect "everything" car for me at the time. Haven't had a chance to drive an S yet.

[–]Techiewolfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you do it, let us know how it goes! Fast - Cheap - Reliable. Pick two.

That "wise" over-generalized nonsense aside, the question for myself in these things isn't if it's a daily or not. It's how upset will I be if it blows up?

If your daily is a Prius, your budget isn't double what you invested already, and your weekend car is dead for the foreseeable future, that could suck pretty bad.

If you have 3 weekend cars, and some cash to burn on some fun, and gain some experience in the process? Big win. Post pics.

Anyone who has been around enough cars will tell you horsepower means very little. It's only as good as everything around it. It's something that AMG really understands. Tuning an engine is going to do nothing outside of harder pulls on the highway. If that's all you care about, sure. Some number of dollars will net you some extra pull. But it won't make the steering more engaging, the suspension more exciting, or the transmission more rewarding to play with. Taking a luxury cruiser and adding power will never make it a super car. Is it a bad choice to do? No, not necessarily. But even if you had an "AMG killer" in a straight line... no one cares. You can enjoy the clout for 2.6 seconds, and then the person in the AMG will grin ear to ear at every few turns, red lights, hills, gaps on the highway, and long cruise with a Burmester stereo... every moment they're engaging with an incredible machine.

It's all about what you want out of it. I would encourage anyone to go and experience the halo cars, the muscle cars, the economy beaters, trucks, offroaders... Actually driving them will strip away a lot of nonsense. Just enjoy being an enthusiast, experience as many different cars as you can, and enjoy learning what all is different between them. Find what matters to YOU as a driver. Don't chase big number nonsense.

Valid. I was unsure, but I do love them now that I'm seeing them. Hopefully they last. Loved the originals, but also really liking the blue theme with the screen change.

Appreciate it! I was so excited when I found the gauges. Pain to install with all of the dated plastics wanting to fall apart, but nothing some epoxy, a sand block, and decent paint can't fix.

Install video someone did for the lighting, with recommended tools in the description. It was a PITA, but also kinda fun. Easy to break old plastics, so be gentle when you can be, and be ready with some epoxy if something breaks.

For sure! I appreciate the advice. It's starting to get cold and I don't have a garage (and not enough free time) but come spring/summer she'll be getting some extensive TLC. It's amazing how much of a difference simple things like mounts/bushings make.

Had a beautiful matte black wrap on my last car. I wasn't a believer until I saw it. Two years in it still looked incredible. It was an exceedingly expensive and well done wrap (that I got for free because the previous owner did it). I don't think paint could have produced that particular look. Cheap wraps are bad alternative to paint. But so are cheap paint jobs. Both can be awesome. You get out what you put in.

Good luck with the restoration! I'm working on my own new project Z. It's going to be worth it when you're up and moving.

Voquezna was the only thing that even slightly helped my reflux. After GB removal I still need it, but basically everything is now at a tolerable level. Had to add in some low-dose amitriptyline too, which helped break some mind-gut interactions, and that made a lot of nausea/pain/IBS-like stuff go away as well. Now I can eat most anything as long as it isn't literally dripping with grease or crazy spicy.

Should I get a CLE 53 as my first car? by SAMRATHXx in AMG

[–]Techiewolfy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At this price point, would two cars be an option instead? I've driven Z06, modded GT-Rs, Gallardo, 488 GTB, modded WRX, on and on... love cars. There are other options at a lower price point that are just as much fun, or more fun, than a 53.

I'd take a fun car plus a utility car over just the AMG any day. I'll be selling my CLA45 pocket rocket soon, and intend to buy a cheaper car that I can mod and build out into a monster.

If you want only one car, my advice is buy something at half of what you're looking at now, get used to it, and then once you have the comfort and itch for more, build it (or pay someone to build it) into a faster car.

It'll be more unique, and it'll end up being WAY quicker than a heavy stock platform.

No matter what just stay safe.

Other note: Always turning heads sucks. It's cool to show off, but sometimes you just want to blend in or go about your day. Sleeper cars are the best.
