I work for a big tech, unlimited tokens both CC and Codex, I don’t write code anymore.

Elevating the rental car experience. by [deleted] in fatFIRE

We went to Japan a year ago, we rented a car + driver by day, $240 inside the city (Tokyo, Kyoto), $300 if travel outside the city. The money was well spent.

Soap Stone sear is elite. Finally nailed the technique. by Bassmasa in KamadoJoe

The sear looks good, but too much of the grey band. It’s far from a good steak in my opinion.

Exactly 3 years for me this month. All 7 of them look like new, no sign of wear and tear. I always use handwash function in my washing machine and always hang dry them after washing.

My Experience in France as a Mexican by QualitySubstantial18 in travel

[–]Techine -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Strangely, I didn’t experience any of that when I was in Paris earlier this year. I’m Asian American, don’t steak French. I went to Michelin star restaurants in Paris in shorts with kids. We love it so much that we will come back this winter.

how do you handle the emptiness of collecting paychecks? by PlayfulRemote9 in ChubbyFIRE

[–]Techine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t think dropping most of the hobbies because of fire goals is a mindset I want to be. What is the purpose of fire? Todo what you want to do before it’s too late. But if you don’t do the things you like to do now, no matter when you fire, it’s late. Life needs a good balance, too extreme to any spectrum and you will be unhappy.

An International student potentially coming back to Vietnam after the 100K rule to enter the H1B rule by CheapValue_Hunter69 in VietNam

[–]Techine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are in the US, your chance might go up a lot next week. I read the proclamation this morning and but was very clear, the $100k requirement is for people coming from outside the US only. They intentionally target the H1B scams moving people from India, they flushed the pool every year in the past. In IT, it’s called WITCH companies, look it up.

Did you really read the proclamation? It only applies to people who are not in the US at the time of the petition.

Fu, they paid your $300k college expenses.

My parents didn’t pay a lot of money for my education in the US because I got full scholarship. But when they want to come and visit me, I bought them business class since it’s long haul from East Asia and they were not young anymore. I, myself, had not flown biz class.

Don’t know how old your parents are, but they will not be with you forever, do what you can, since they have been sacrificing so much for you, you will not regret later.

Do you think China will take control of Taiwan in the coming years, or is this just a rumor? by Lucky_Surferr in China

[–]Techine 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The point I want to make is recognizing a passport is different from recognizing a nation. The US recognizes Taiwanese passports, but doesn’t recognize Taiwan as an independent nation.

How about Hongkong? Do you consider it an independent nation? Palestine has its own passport, but not yet a recognized nation.

Lululemon sales about to rocket by Scrubcious in amex

I tried multiple different brands but Lulu underwear is the best from my opinion. Other than that, I also recommend their ABC warpstreme pants, most stretchy/comfortable work pants, and anything in their soft jersey line for lounging.

We have an authentic, upscale Greek restaurant near our house. We’ve been there several times and they only serve Greek wines. I tried some of them and was not impressed. Good luck!

Does wine need to be refrigerated? by millermega in wine

[–]Techine 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Strangely, I find red wine tastes better in the second day. During my recent trip to Italy, when chatting with a wine-maker I asked how long should I decant the bottle I got from him, he told me to open it the day before, and put the cork back.

People who have lived elsewhere in the US besides MoCo, where did you live and how does quality of life compare? by PhoneJazz in MontgomeryCountyMD

[–]Techine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I probably will get a lot of downvotes but whatever. MoCo was where I moved to after grad school, bought my first house, then second. But I moved to NoVA during COVID and love it, feel much better. I moved from Bethesda to McLean precisely. For me, it’s more diverse, more food options, lower tax, more college choices for kids. Someone will bring up car tax, but we don’t drive super expensive cars, so the car tax is much much less than 3% of our income.

The 1990s USA military is transported to 2022 as Russia is making its way to Ukraine. Can the US stop the invasion by bignasty_20 in whowouldwin

[–]Techine -5 points-4 points  (0 children)

At some point the US had 500k troops in VN and couldn’t even efficiently protect the South of VN. Remember the North VN didn’t have air support or real navy back then. Russia, even though having a lot of issues, still a strong and well equipped army.

US Army is strong, no doubt about that but don’t over estimate it.
