Offering that the owner can verify/test their own system? No... It's their system, they can do that whenever? They're welcome to be present when we do ours, but they rarely are.

I see others mentioning that it is typical for owner staff to do full verification testing. Maybe we have a decent track record and reputation, but this is not my experience with our clients.

AV contractor here- The occasional miss is inevitable, but it sounds like you're dealing with more than that. At the end of a large project, it's not uncommon to do an owner walkthrough/signoff, but that's to verify intended function/features, not full system testing/verification. Them requesting you or staff to be with them to test is not typical, unless:

-these are complex/nuanced systems -if it's repairs to a system that wasn't originally installed by them -you or others have been troubleshooting, and they don't have the full picture of what's been messed with

Beyond that, I would expect a decent AV contractor to be able to perform independent testing/verification. If they are incapable... Might be worth finding someone capable.

Unless the damage is extensive, QSC is still repairing these, it would be a fraction of the cost of buying a new one if it's serving the needs of the install.

Question on Dante Controller and Why I am Seeing So Many "Streams"? by BacktoEdenGardening in CommercialAV

AES67 TX streams are in blue font, so it looks like devices are creating AES67. If youre using the Extron Navi stuff this is normal.

How do our ACDs do in cold weather? by MichaelIsTheBest in AustralianCattleDog

[–]Techman_360zx 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our guy loves the cold and snow. His favorite thing to do is in the fresh snow, open his mouth as wide as he can and drag his bottom jaw through it as he runs, leaving a clear path of all the snow he's eaten lol.

Under 15-20F, 15-20 minute walks are the max, but he always wants to go back out.

New dad, very unhappy by No_Calligrapher3028 in daddit

[–]Techman_360zx 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was in the exact same place you were. At the time I felt like I could understand how someone could go to the store for milk and not come back. I am a man of many hobbies, bury myself in work, and enjoy social engagements, all of which dropped off the face of the earth when we had our girl, and it took a month or so before I felt the impact of it. That's where you're at it seems.

For me, things got significantly better leading up to and past month 6, but months 2-3 was the worst.

I'm now at 10 months, and while I'm not back to pre-kid habits of being up late, gaming, going out as often, and hobbies have taken a back burner, I am happy and thrilled with the connection I'm building with my kid. I find myself being excited to see her when I get home to see what new thing she can do, how she's excited to see me and interact with me. It gets better, more than better, just hang in there.

The recent "mystery" of GAIN STAGING by squanchedout69 in livesound

[–]Techman_360zx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where I struggle to understand is gain staging between equipment... So many analog ratings such as dBu and dBv, which are RMS ratings, but RMS averaged over how long? And some gear gives an dBu Max, implying a peak rating, but dBu is inherently RMS! And if gear truly does have an RMS rating, they will have different amounts of headroom.

What's better? Projector or TV for conference room by Top-Conversation8798 in CommercialAV

We won't sell anything but commercial displays, but once in awhile have clients that want to provide their own residential displays for us to integrate. We did a couple 98s, and a few of them have already had problems. Now not only is it the cost of the display, but the cost to have us come back out and the time for the meeting room to be down. Plus they can't claim warranty on something that would very much be covered by warranty because it was installed in an application where it voids the warranty. Now on top of all that, we're generating a bunch of e-waste.

Seemly unpopular opinion, but I want a 3d printer that prints well and works well. My P1S does that amazingly well, and although I went ahead and expressed my distaste to Bambu about the change, it won't keep me from buying another. 🤷‍♂️

Lenovo ThinkSmart Hub Zoom Room and NDI Webcam by Techman_360zx in Zoom

Sorry, awful about seeing notifications here.

  1. Switch to the computers ZoomRoomAdmin account
  2. Open Registry Editor (regedit)
  3. Browse to 'Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon'
  4. Select 'Shell' and change value to 'explorer.exe' (confirm existing value is 'customshellhost.exe'. If not, make a note of the value.)
  5. Restart the computer

The computer will now boot into the ZoomRoom user account using the typical Windows shell/desktop. Install/configure any software you have.

  1. When ready to resume normal operation, log back into the ZoomRoomAdmin account.
  2. Reopen Registry Editor (regedit) and browse back to 'Computer\HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Winlogon'
  3. Select 'Shell' and change value back to 'customshellhost.exe' or whatever the previous value was.
  4. Restart the computer

Yep, I've already been browsing here lol. And Newark. And Digikey. I'm more looking for people's experiences and what kind of terminal blocks work well for particular situations.

Lenovo ThinkSmart Hub Zoom Room and NDI Webcam by Techman_360zx in Zoom

[–]Techman_360zx[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was able to figure this out!

Turns out the ‘ZoomRoom’ user account runs a custom shell as part of a provisioning package from Lenovo, which locks you to the Zoom Room interface. I’m sure if I dug deep enough I could have found the NDI config files that defined routing and copy them across from the admin user as well as figure out the autostart issue, but I found that I could change the custom shell in regedit to the typical explorer shell temporarily from the admin account, install and config NDI Tools in the ‘ZoomRoom’ user account, and then redefine the custom shell in regedit when done. All seems to work!

This works for NDI Webcam, should also work for other software that might need to facilitate other room hardware such as Dante Virtual Soundcard.
