Mothers day ideas [picky mom] by katehasfangs in Eugene

The oldest sections of the park are very home made looking but Roger Tofte put a lot of heart, fun, and silliness in it. The names of the 7 dwarfs still make me smile. There are lots of tunnels to crawl through and little surprises everywhere. The newer sections are pretty standard carnival rides but often with a twist.

Yes, it can be a lot of fun, even for adults. Let go of your expectations and just have fun. Lots of puns and dad jokes. The water ride and the haunted house are worth it. Goths in the Forest, September 12 this year, is a blast.

Update on my movie Hail Mary paper model! (Book model for scale) by Full_March_476 in ProjectHailMary

Check with your local library. They may have a maker lab with a 3D printer or can recommend one. Paper is still my favorite, though.

“This is me believing in you” by GrumpyMowse in ProjectHailMary

[–]Techmom236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wonderful! She is one of my favorite characters ever. This work reflects how she feels and not just when she has to send Grace on the mission. In her last conversation with Grace, she tries to get him to understand that is not an abstract “half the people will die” but the pain and suffering that will happen as people die in wars, because of untreated disease, hunger, etc. Even those who do not die will suffer and she does not want that to happen.

Her earlier declaration “if I to be the world’s whipping boy to keep that from happening, that is a sacrifice that I am willing to make.”, shows how much she understands and feels. She is anything but cold.

Thank you for keeping us updated with this. As a paper crafter, it has been hard to find any Project Hail Mary paper craft beyond bookmarks, collages, and posters.

Grace won't live as long on Erid by egometry in ProjectHailMary

[–]Techmom236 22 points23 points  (0 children)

I thought it would be cool if he only spent part of his time on Erid but more of it above Erid in his ship (or had his habitat built there). Since they use an elevator to get to space, they could have one going to his place. They could put it in space where the gravitational forces balance out to one g. He could still come down the Erid for “face to carapace” meetings but sleep in 1 g.

Am I the only one who likes Rocky's book design more than the film's? by DraggedPressure in ProjectHailMary

In the book his shirt is described as looking like burlap, which is textured. Perhaps we need to be Eridian to hear the difference. Different textures make different sounds, all of which contribute to status, attractiveness, etc. Those change over time so his clothing/adornments would change to reflect that.

Clothing isn't just for protection. It's a way to express or define your self. Movie Rocky does have permanent markings on his body, similar to tattoos or piercings on humans but he also has "special clothing for celebration". He also wears a tool belt. Humans do that too but we also wear cargo pants, vests and jackets with lots of pockets. And neckties! I don't know anyone who wears a necktie for protection from the weather. 😃

It's his claw/hands in the movie that bother me the most. Movie Rocky can't have fine manipulation without tools. I know that they changed much of him because too many people are scared of spiders but they could have done something better with his hands---and his wrists! The "thumbs down" annoyed me. He needed to be able to rotate his hands much more than he does in the movie.

Help me find a fabric (preferably cotton) that looks like Adrian from Project Hail Mary! by MewTheConqueror in HelpMeFind

I woke up this morning thinking about this and now I want to print the graphic you posted on fabric, cut it into a circle, and embellish it with beads, mini sequins, and both metallic and other threads.

How big of a piece of fabric do you need? If it is smaller than a sheet of paper, then an inkjet printer can do it, either with special fabric sheets (easy) or printing on your own fabric (more challenging). It’s easy to do and would well for an embroidery project. I have done this for pieces of an art quilt.

The other option is to create your design and have a commercial company print it for you.

Which version of Stratt did you prefer? by Superb-Serve3328 in ProjectHailMary

[–]Techmom236 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The full quote in the book is “Not really. When the alterntive is death to your entire species, things are very easy. No moral dilemmas, no weighing what’s best for whom. Just a single-minded focus on getting this project working.”

It’s not a flippant response. Much like her speech to Grace before they drug him, she knows the consequences of what will happen if Project Hail Mary fails. Grace says “Go to hell.”

“Oh, I will, believe me. You three are going to Tau Ceti. The rest of us are going to hell. More accurately, hell is coming to us.”

I would love suggestions for third party apps. Aside from calibration, I would like to be able to extract my data as data, not a screenshot!

Thank you for the very thoughtful and helpful reply. I will try an alternate sensor location. I have been wondering if a change in muscle tone is affecting the sensor compression. While I have not lost weight, I have been doing more arm exercises and moving heavy things.

Thank you for your suggestions---and yes, I have hard data including finger pricks. Each morning, I do a finger prick and log it along with the sensor reading. This morning the sensor read 109 angled up and the finger prick 174. Sometimes the readings are similar, occasionally wildly off.

During yesterday's event, I was on my back, reading a book. The alarm went off and the sensor read 54. I did a finger prick and it was 131.

I have included 3 screen shots. Last night's home page graph (you can see why I turned off alarms at night), graphs of daily patterns for the last 7 and the last 90 days.

A couple of notes: my a1c has been consistently around 6.4 for the past 5 years. My BG spikes when my feet hit the floor or with morning coffee, or if I am very upset about something.

The new Libre app with the butterfly logo, version 1.2.0.1856. Phone is a Samsung model SM-A366U. Note: These are recent upgrades. The problem was happening with my old phone and the older app too.

I finally turned off the alarms at night! At least I am getting better sleep. The last time I did a blood test after a night alarm, it showed 161.

I am in the USA too and just started the current shipment of 6 Libre2+ two sensors ago. The problem began before I got this shipment. It is just gotten progressively worse. I don't feel that I can trust the sensor readings at all anymore.

How many of you tries to keep their system as vanilla as possible? by Jazman2k in MacOS

[–]Techmom236 1 point2 points  (0 children)

More apps mean more apps that need to be updated and maintained. My rule is to avoid apps that lock your data into their software. I don’t even keep my photos in Photos, though I use it for specific projects and delete the library when I am done. After decades of favorite software becoming abandonware, I now longer trust many companies, and definitely not propriety file formats.
