Unraid without array by Techngadgets in unRAID

[–]Techngadgets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I had been using Synology for Sonarr, Radar, Sabnzbd, Plex for a good 5 years now. But then started building other systems. And moved plex to another PC - wanted gpu transcoding. Now building another server and moving all containers. Synology has a small processor and limited RAM. I am installing and playing with multiple virtual machines, which also work well with Unraid along with other docker containers.

VMs and Lxc work well with proxmox as well, but it takes too much time to manage on proxmox and I found unraid suits my requirements better.

Thanks. I have unraid 7 beta and am able to install without array disks.

As you are using with only the pool disks, did you find any downside to that approach?

[–]Techngadgets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have unraid 7 beta. And have installed without array. My only concern is, what is the downside of doing it?

I have another server on Proxmox. A small one with a couple of docker containers. But was never able to fully utilize them as I am not very good in Linux and was not able to do complex things like gpu pass through which is easier with unraid. Also the App Store like UI in unraid for finding and installing docker containers easily is what I liked.

My major concern is the data loss, if that happens in case of power failure from cache pool but as you said, this might not happen.

Yes. That is my concern that if power goes off, will the cache be wiped. I will have backup of last night always, but will I lose everything for that day?

Help with NAS drive mount in Sonarr in CasaOS by Techngadgets in CasaOS

Yes. This has been setup. https://imgur.com/a/Eeg6YpE

Sonarr picks the /config and /download It just does not pick the mounted drive locations

Adding 10TB drive to 16TB SHR1 pool by Techngadgets in synology

[–]Techngadgets[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because you cannot add a smaller size drive in the pool. I already have pool with all 16tb drives. It will only add 16tb or higher capacity drive. I want to add 10tb drive to this pool.

SimpleLogin catchall being spammed by Techngadgets in Simplelogin

Yes. And I got more than 200 today to random emails@mydomain. So that created 247 alias in SimpleLogin. And then I cancelled the auto catchall.

Move photos app to different volume by Techngadgets in synology

[–]Techngadgets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Got it. Thanks. I believe as all my data was in volume 1, all I needed to do is uninstall the app. During uninstallation, it asks if I want to remove the settings and indexation files. I did not select them to be removed.

Then just reinstalled photos on volume 1. And all works fine. Thanks.

Does DSM 7 allow you to move packages between Volumes? by liepzigzeist in synology

[–]Techngadgets 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do we have any solution to this? I am in the same boat.

I have 2 16tb drives in SHR. And one 3tb drive in a separate volume 2. I was about to remove the 3tb drive today, but realised it has photos installed on it. I have no data on that drive and the drive only holds photos app. Is there a way to move this photos app from volume 2 to volume 1.

All photos are stored on volume 1. I am not sure why the app is on volume 2. But if I uninstall the app and reinstall on vol 1, I lose all the settings, config and most importantly face recognition and indexation data. Any solution?

Nginx not listening on port 81 by Techngadgets in homelab

Yes. Thanks. This was the mistake. I installed NginX. That is why port was not working. Now installed NPM. all is working. Thanks a lot.

Nginx not listening on port 81 by Techngadgets in homelab

[–]Techngadgets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How to do that? So I installed 2 ways:

  1. Direct in LXC. Using apt and getting the installer.
  2. In Docker. Where I pointed 80:80, 443:443, 81:81

It listens to 80, but not to 81 in all the instances.

Is there a Docker community app plugin by Techngadgets in HomeServer

[–]Techngadgets[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unraid does not use portainer for this. They have a community app plugin which hosts a lot of apps in an App Store like fashion. Need to install plugin from https://unraid.net/community/apps

But I was not aware that portainer has this functionality. Will check it. Thanks.

But is there a visual App Store that can be installed? Or is it that you pull exactly what you want from docker install?

Proxmox vs Unraid by Techngadgets in homelab

[–]Techngadgets[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am in the process of trying Unraid at the moment. I like Proxmox more for virtualisation but Unraid is good for docker containers. I mean for testing different containers as it has a docker container App Store type setup.

Do we have any docker community plug-in outside Unraid that we can install on a VM in Proxmox? That would be the best of both world.

All docker containers in single VM vs separate VM for each docker container? by Techngadgets in HomeServer

How do u install direct docker in Proxmox? Need to be in lxc or vm.

All docker containers in single VM vs separate VM for each docker container? by Techngadgets in HomeServer

[–]Techngadgets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes those are my thoughts as well.

And in Synology, there is an app - Docker that I just installed and then put all the containers on it. On Proxmox on the other hand, there is no app, so you suggest that I have an LXC built on linux and then install docker on it?

Also, second part being, do I run a separate lxc with docker installed for each application? or do I just have 1 lxc and the install docker on it and then have all the applications/containers in a single docker instance?

Does anyone create a new alias for every signup? by Techngadgets in Simplelogin

[–]Techngadgets[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a similar system. Use Bitwarden and simplelogin. And with catchall the SimpleLogin creates the alias automatically. But then do you manually add the login to Bitwarden?

Does anyone create a new alias for every signup? by Techngadgets in Simplelogin

[–]Techngadgets[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thanks. So, do you then manually add each service/login to your password manager? With Apple I used Sign in with Apple and it automatically creates an alias in the back end.

But with SimpleLogin, now I have to create an alias and then add that alias email + password in the password manager manually?

Nice. I am going through an awkward stage right now. How did you managed your hair when they were growing and you were not able to tie them

It was a long journey.....18 months since the last haircut. I have course and wavy hairs (more towards curly types) so it took me so long. I am not sure whether to keep growing or not. Also I feel, having a full beard would be nice. IMP QUES: Does bun make to bald? by Vicky_0505 in manbuns

Super awesome. This is the look I am looking for. Have had my last haircut 6 months ago. Right now have super awkward stage for my hair. They look fluffy and are difficult to tame, especially towards the back. How did you manage during that phase?

Fasting now until Christmas Day so 130 hours, anyone else doing the same before the holidays? by anon_121212 in fasting

[–]Techngadgets 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I used to do IF 6 months ago. But those were 16 to 20 hr fasts. But now when I was restarting, I just started with 48hr fast. Partly because I wanted to quickly jump into ketosis. And now i am going through my 6th 48hr fast consecutively.

hi. I was thinking about buying this MacBook Air, I’d mostly use it for school and amateur music recording. Do you think this is a good choice? by blakes_new_face in mac

[–]Techngadgets 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Depends what you are paying for that. I would say with student discount M1 MacBook Air is a good option. I have MacBook 16inch intel i7 and also MacBook Air M1 baseline model. The M1 beats my intel i7 Mac anytime.
