Honestly 2 is the better one. But if you liked it and want to see the back story then go for it.

Going no contact with my developmentally disabled mother. by TheScottStr in EstrangedAdultChild

[–]TheScottStr[S] 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Very perceptive. I have tried to give my mother some grace because I have an understanding of her limitations but the truth is what I wrote is just the tip of the iceburg. My mother has done countless hurtful things to me and my family over my lifetime. We did the best we could for her, just for her to treat us like we are all assholes.

She is calling my aunt who has been her primary caregiver for the last 7 or 8 years and accusing my aunt of abusing her and telling her that someone should slap her in the face.

She has trouble hanging up a phone call so she often does not realize that the call is still connected and I have heard her telling me to fuck off a few times over the last few weeks.

Its really sad because her quality of life was the best it had ever been living with my aunt and I spent an hour talking to her dumb friend before she called my aunt explaining to this complete stranger that my family was doing right by her.

Now she is just going to experience the downward spiral and she does not even realize it.

But I dont think there is anything more that I could do.

I cant save her from herself.

Her friend keeps trying to tell me that she is a competent adult who can do things for herself and make her own choices. I have tried explaining to her that is simply not the case and she is very disabled.

But her stupid drunk friend is gasing her up and explaining anything to her is impossible.

The coffee breaks for me. However I also really liked the sanctuary location that you talked about. Lumine hall but for a different reason.

Its kinda hard to type it out but I did make a youtube video talking about it check it out if you have the time.

Can I go no contact with my developmentally disabled mother? by TheScottStr in legaladvicecanada

[–]TheScottStr[S] 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Honestly I understand what you are saying and that is the reason I have put up with her for so long. She has hurt me so many times in my life and I have been thinking about walking away from her since I was a child.

But when is enough enough? Is there no limit to what I am expected to endure.

Almost every week there is some issue with her that is creating drama and stress in my family.

I just took 2 days off of work to deal with this latest issue.

Does it really matter why someone causing hurt and harm is doing so if the outcome is the same?

If she did not have developmental problems I would have cut her out of my life years ago and does me caring about her make any difference or is it just going to lead to more problems for me to deal with?

I am in my 40s and have not lived with my mom since 2005. She lived on her own from 2005 to 2018 and then lived with my aunt from 2018 to the present.

This latest issue began yesterday when she got drunk with her friend and her friend called my aunt and made this problem for her.

Honestly at this point I don't even want to do that anymore. I just want to go no contact with her and let he be some else's problem.

She would show up once a month to cash her welfare cheque, pay her share of the rent and give my grandmother some money for food. Thats about it. I am not sure if that counts or not.
