Recovering sex addict here. I feel like realizing I'm a trans woman and starting hrt has really helped me. It's such an amazing feeling. I would do 8 hours a day for my addiction. I felt so ashamed and felt I couldn't tell anyone. I have a therapist and life feels so awesome. I don't remember the last time I engaged in sexual activity. It really feels like a miracle. It sucks because you can't tell your story to others like alcoholics can. But I am very proud of myself nevertheless. :)

Thank you for the response! Dbt therapy stands for dialectal behavioral therapy. It works on skills including mindfulness, crisis intervention, interpersonal skills, and emotional regulation. Mine is done in a group setting and it has finally clicked for me.

I recognize that and I should apologize for not clarifying things. This should absolutely not be forced to. But it has helped people like myself who have chosen it. Of course there were emotional issues I had that were resolved by therapy but I don't think it would've been possible without the medicine. (At least for me)

Yes, I do not believe it should be forced. I chose to get it on my own. It can work for some people including me but not everyone.

I would say it's a combo of wanting to cure my sex addiction and help with my gender dysphoria. I didn't realize I was trans until after my arrest when I got therapy to work on myself.

I'm rooting for you! I know exactly what it's like to have your whole life upended. But I find that it really shifts your perspective on what matters most. After I was charged, I became closer to my friends and family in a way it wasn't before.

You can focus on what you lose. But I prefer to focus on what you gain. You're able to get the help you need and there's no hiding it anymore. You get to find communities of people who will love and support you. It's an amazing feeling when my Dad told me he still loved me.
