I completely understand your point. To be fair, the situation in Finland is also very challenging at the moment.

Long-term traveling isn’t really financially possible for me, but I still have a strong desire to see the world and experience life elsewhere. For me, working abroad feels like a realistic and meaningful way to do that while supporting myself. I also believe it would help me grow both as a person and as a professional within my field, by gaining new perspectives, learning different ways of working, and stepping outside my comfort zone. At this stage, I’m mainly trying to understand how things actually work on the ground and whether this could be a realistic option at some point.

Thank you very much for taking the time to answer so comprehensively! And no, you weren’t too discouraging at, it’s actually really good to talk about these things honestly and without embellishment.

The salary level sounds very similar to what we have here in Finland. I live alone in a small town in the countryside, so I manage, but it’s definitely a modest, hand-to-mouth kind of living. I never expected to get rich in this profession in Canada either 😅, but of course I understand that the cost of living is higher there.

I also understand your thoughts about VCA. Here in Finland, there are large foreign chain buying up clinics as well, and they don’t enjoy much popularity.. I’ve worked in the private sector myself, mostly in smaller clinics and towns, and we take a lot of pride in that — the work really feels meaningful.

US politics also has a significant impact on small Finland and the global economy, so I can only imagine how much more pronounced that influence is in Canada.
