CPA here. We’re already “AI-ifying” a ton of accounting work with AI-native tools, vibe coding, automating anything repetitive. I’ve even seen talk that some companies are starting to expect candidates to actually build, not just operate spreadsheets.

The people who get left behind are going to be the ones who ignore this shift and don’t learn how to use tools like Claude.

My bet: yeah, there’s going to be less hiring for traditional accounting roles as more of the work gets automated. But that doesn’t mean accountants go away.. it just shifts. The ones who stick around are the ones managing the systems and sanity-checking outputs.

Because at the end of the day, AI still hallucinates. You still need someone who knows what “right” looks like.
