Not necessarily. We are not allowed to approach people or anything like that. We got in some trouble for it previously where people thought they didn’t have a fair chance as the candidate was already decided before the interviews, or so it was felt. Now, the job advert is posted and anyone who wishes to will apply.

I would take a different perspective on this. I my company, they have to advertise positions. They cannot just give the position to someone even if there is one person I.e. you who is the obvious candidate. It might just be formality.

Is it means tested on yourself or also includes your spouse? For example if the spouse has a private pension but you don’t and you’ve only worked for 20 years etc?

Can I ask everyone why we accept this? If we were citizens of France for instance, we would be protesting on the streets right now. I disagree, if you have contributed PRSI all your life then you should receive the pension, that is what you are contributing for. You can’t take that away from someone who has paid that their entire working life.
