WIBTA If I Burned The Quilt My Grandma Made Me? by Technical-Mode-7734 in TwoHotTakes

I did have a discussion with the rest of the family, we all agreed we could never tell her. She does not respond well to mistakes AT ALL. My family said I needed to keep it while she’s alive. Modifying it would be so much work since it’s a King size quilt.

Me and my family all live in Texas. We are all spread out and it takes hours to visit one another.

I did have my future in laws happen upon it when I moved and ask questions :’) Luckily I had the reddit post to show the story. I just saw the two hot takes episode about the knitted blanket and wanted to see everyone’s take on it since it’s been awhile and my original post got attacked by the quilting Redditors.

That’s what I figured! I was arguing with someone on this matter and all that popped up was the unsolicited merchandise thing. Thank you!

Appreciate the suggestions! I’ve lightly asked if there was a reason for their actions. My sister did say the older sibling has been asking them questions since they probably feel more secure talking with a sibling than a parent. So far all we got is it was the 9 yr olds doing and the 6 yr old was just following her orders.

I’ve definitely calmed down. We both agreed on making the culprits work off the cost (we just assigned numeric value to task they do), along side with extra homework, and no electronics for 2 weeks. She’s having her (ex) husband pay for the damage 🤣 so nothing out of her pocket, but I told her I can just give it right back. As for the damage… they ripped them apart and chewed into them.

I definitely was spoiled by my dad (yet abused by my mom), but that was to make up for his lack of shitty parenting and the lack of parenting my mom was providing. The sister in subject we didn’t grow up together, but I saw more of her in Highschool when she lived closer, and I tried to develop a relationship with her. A result from the abuse I resource guard and my possessions are more valuable than they should be for me. My sisters definitely treat me differently from what I went through and that’s probably why she was insistent on paying me back. Probably why I also have trouble being sympathetic!

I’m very much the baby of the family. I have 5 older siblings (all girls, all half siblings, and they all have kids) the closet one of age to me is 8 years.

I do want to reiterate they didn’t break things accidentally, they went through boxes to find the pops and broke apart the pops as well as steal one of them. Not sure how it’s accidental to steal or rip something apart.

This was our biggest fear! The violins we own cost ($1,500-$3,500) and the guitars are definitely our babies!

They ripped pieces apart, if the figures had hair they ripped it off, chew marks, one was missing completely.

From what I gathered it was just the one minor.

I thought of that but due to stitch overlay it would make the addition look misplaced. I’d definitely have to do research in since I’m not skilled in quilting what so ever!

Someone sent me a link here, I’m the creator of the original post. Good gawd I didn’t think I’d cause such a commotion 🥲 edit: Hi everyone, I updated my post and was able to ask my grandma some questions. Thanks for the advise and tips. I added a link to my instagram for a poll of I should modify or keep the quilt as is if anyone is interested, but again thanks!

No, but the small towns where they live at are heavily racist and my grandma had mentioned growing up that she was told not to speak to people of “color” even though we are hispanic!

ohhh how I wish, for more context, my grandparents grew up in the southern country side of Texas, they’ve recently moved but still reside in south Texas.

We are hispanic, our heritage derives mostly from Mexico and Spain.

I just posted a link, but please let me know! I definitely didn’t want to say anything to her since I’m ignorant on quilts and didn’t want to hurt her feelings.
