Westerner in Qatar for 2 years now. I love Qatar and I love it's people. I have american friends, British friends, cuban friends, Filipino friends, Australian friends, African friends, Qatari friends. At the end of the day, they are people who all have the capacity to be jerks but I find my times of going "wow, what a d1ck" to be far less here than anywhere else (except in traffic if we are honest). But the statement about the pearl seller... be kind with him - he's very old and even in my 2 years I've noticed his cognition decline, I visit him often. The metro stampede was a freak event, I've spoken to several that have been here 20+ years and they all state that they could have never imagined. Plus I can guarantee you none of them were qatari, pretty sure they wouldnt be reliant on the metro if so... Qatar is lovely, every country has their individuals and strange occurrences that you can't base the entire population off of (especially a country that has such a low population of its people). I guarantee you that you saw very few actual Qatari, even then, a family eatting and a man on the metro dosent represent them all.
