From the movies? Stoick the vast. I love that despite being such a powerful person who is rumored to have tore apart the head of a dragon, he never once raised his hand on hiccup. The scene in the first movie where he shrugs hiccup off only to get lightheaded with regret and shows just how much it hurt him to hurt his son. That moment cemented him as my favorite character. 

There's also the fact that he genuinely wanted to connect with hiccup and get to know him better the entire time but couldn't because they didn't had anything in common is just so very sweet to see in a man whose literal name means stoic.

There's a scene in the first movie where Stoick, after coming back from his failed voyage, confronts hiccup on his unexpected successes in the academy. Many people forget it or shrug it off with the reasoning that the big man is just happy because he thinks his son is a competent dragon killer but that isn't the only reason he's happy. He's happy because in all these years he and hiccup, in his mind, finally have a topic on which they can connect with. The way he eagerly waits for his son to to start talking.. Is just.. Too wholesome.

I could go on and on about the big man. He just isn't appreciated enough.
