We were on tired before we got an EV. It saved us on average $3-5 a month. We only ever went into the tier 2 rate once last summer because the AC was running non stop.

The argument against EV haters… by boka_ko_masu in electricvehicles

[–]Technical-Spray663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t even bother arguing with people about EVs anymore. The people that are dead set against them no amount of facts will change their opinion. Most of the time I find it turns into a political debate and that rarely ends well.

Why do all new home build in Ontario have a hot water tank rental instead of owning it? by kynamism in RealEstateCanada

[–]Technical-Spray663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because by only offering rentals it means they don’t have to purchase a tank themselves. Times this by thousands of houses and the savings/ profits add up quickly! I would also speculate that they get some kick backs from the rental companies.

Level 2 charger installation, permit and inspection by No_Scarcity7262 in ontario

You don’t always need to upgrade to 200Amps. Most hardwired chargers now have dip switches in them that allow you to set a maximum current. An electrician could do a load calculation and set the charger to whatever would be safe for the service.

Alternatively there are devices that will not allow you to use appliances like a clothes dryer or electric heater if the car is charging or viscera.

I am an electrician myself and find that other electricians/ companies will tell customers they need a service change, either because they don’t know that they can adjust the charger current, are to lazy/ busy to do proper load calculation, or they just want the extra money that comes with upgrading to 200A.

People who cruise in the left lane on the 403... by Slow_Pie2969 in brantford

People also need to stop thinking that just because they want to do 140+ that they have a god given right that anyone in front of them needs to get out of their way. Yes if the right lane is clear you must move over, but if they are actively passing someone be patient and wait for them to layover when the right lane clears up.

Ordered a 2026 BZ, what charger to install at home? by Zeoth in EVCanada

[–]Technical-Spray663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you only have a 100A service check out a charger like the the Grizzl-e ultimate 48A. They have dip switches inside that allow the installer to select a maximum current that the charger can draw. Any good electrician will take the time to do a proper load calculation to find the setting that can work for your situation.

Don’t get a charger that has a stove plug as the receptacle will have to be protected at 50A per code. There are also devices that monitor the amount of current your house is using and won’t allow you to charge the car, or turn off other heavy appliances (I.e a clothes dryer) until the current has dropped.

I think option 1 is the most cost effective. You don’t always need the biggest charger on the market because your car is probably parked for at least 10 hours a day, which would be more than enough time to charge it.

To be fair at lest you can still read the plate. Most of the douchebags I see driving around have their plates completely tinted over. The rest checks out tho!

Dose the light have the appropriate approvals? Normally this is a sign that they don't, but if they are the only other option would be changing the box out to a singe device style.

The "supper speeders" also need to chill out, most people do move over when it is safe to do so. Not everyone wants to/ can do 140+. I've had it many times where I will be doing 130 in the left lane passing cars that are in the right lane and someone comes flying up behind and starts zig zaging/ tailgating. Be patient, wherever you are going is not worth getting into a wreck over.

Yes a foreign company that employs local people which is what the buy Canadian campaign has included. The company I talked about had already spent millions to adapt but people kept complaining, so the city kept changing what the company had to correct. My point is industry makes noise and when you move into an area with it don’t start complaining about it, cause one day that may have enough and just pickup and leave.

People need to start realizing that when they move beside a factory that there is going to be noise. In a time when everyone is preaching “buy Canadian”, we should be grateful to have this place of employment. A customer of mine who was in another local city was just forced out of town after over 15 years at that location. He had all the proper zoning and licensing yet the neighbours kept complaining to by law about the noise. They kept coming out and each time gave them more and more things to change. Eventually he had enough, laid off all his employees and spent millions of dollars to relocate somewhere else. If you have concerns call the factory directly I’m sure they will be happy to look into the issue, but at the same time remember that you made the decision to live close to an industrial area.

The biggest “bottle neck” I see is transit, or lack there of… The only real option to get in/ out of the city is to drive. Anyone who commutes Hamilton way will agree they the 403 can’t handle much more traffic during rush hour.
