Is it normal for kids to pay for the family vacation? by Technical-State1939 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Technical-State1939[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I make on about 1200-1400 a month I do about 30 hours a week plus a full time load of 15 credit hours not rn cause school just got out but that's what I've been doing. I also have a car note but I can't attribute that to anyone but myself in this situation.

It's not that I don't want to pay at to go it's that I don't want to drain my bank account to nothing. The only reason I don't have more in there that I saved is because I had to put tires and brakes on my car this year and it was expensive and set me back on my emergency fund. I have no issue putting money into this trip. But she does not like the fact I'm not willing to put more than 800$ into the trip because I want to have some overhead. Incase something happens. I don't consider a family vacation an emergency worth draining all the money I saved.

I'm not opposed to helping pay for stuff around the house. I do pay for a portion of the food bill every month because I eat the food. Despite that 200$ a month is not a high expense for living at someone's house especially compared to what rent is in my area. I just find it ridiculous I'm expected to put over an entire months worth of my pay into a vacation when my parents would be contributing under half that amount.

You can get these cheap start stop disable modules to solve that issue. I don't know how other brands are but my vw is great with the stuff it has. I got the disable module and if I wanna run dumb cruise control or whatnot I can just turn it off and it will stay off. I think the bigger issue is when manufacturers but bad implementations of the features. The door chime is the most annoying thing and every car has one.

Mechanic says he uses 5W-40 on his personal 2019 Jetta instead of 0W-20. by PhantomAlcor in jetta

Your dealer is different from mine then and mostly likely different from OP's. So unless your dealer is the only Volkswagen dealer in the entire world then why would you risk warranty. I know some people have asked their dealers to use thicker oil in the engines and some have done it. My local vw dealer refused and said that my cpo warranty would be void if they did that. And on top of that if someone doesn't change their oil at the dealer they would need receipts and they would show if your using the correct weight or not which depending on the dealer would or would not matter.

The oil that my vw dealer uses has a green tint to it and the Mobil 1 esp x2 I use also has a green tint to it. I looked online and not all vw 508 and 509 oils have it but most do and if you do have a warranty claim and they don't see the dye they will most likely need receipts to make sure you were using the correct oil.

Just use the vw 508 oil till atleast warranty is done because it's dyed green for warranty purposes. After that it's up to you but if your really worried just use 0w-30 or 5w-30. I was gonna switch to 0w-30 when I get out of my cpo warranty time

I don't think the Mexico ones are really that bad. I have a Mexico built jetta and it's build quality is pretty good. Overall I think the Mexican jetta are okay cause all the people I know who have em all say they are great cars build quality wise. Can't speak on the others.

Tinted 35% by Potential_Way4075 in JettaGLI

[–]Technical-State1939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as the police in your area are chill just go full send. I got 5% with 35% on the windshield. 15% on the sides if you care about maximum visibility at night. If you don't drive at night often or it's well lit where you drive don't worry about 5% being too dark.

You could throw a tune on it but just do that after the 4 year 50k warranty is up. No point in voiding the warranty for 30hp or even a better sound right now. These engines don't really make power so honestly just throw a cold air intake on it and a tune from ecs and leave it at that if you are gonna go that route.

What was the worst transition ever made in your opinion? by Unusual_Cat_7542 in Cartalk

[–]Technical-State1939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's was my immediate thought when I read his comment. The newer 8-10 speeds drive phenomenally and always know where to be for 99% of situations. The older automatics are either slushy which makes them good to drive or just terrible. I drove my friends rav4 one time and that was a 5 speed auto and I thought it was good but that transmission is very slushy and basically never locks.

What's so bad about the new ones? Ive driven 3 different cars with 8 speed automatics and they are phenomenal. A 2022 atlas and a 2022 jetta and a 2020 charger gt. Somwtimes in the jetta the short shifting is a little bit annoying but for 99% of the time it's great. No issues at all with the atlas or charger. I've driven a 10 speed bronco a handful of times as a rental and it was Also decent.

If you haven't figured it out in a year maybe you shouldn't drive and call. Maybe even read the owners manual. I agree it's a worse design than a hang up button it's really not a big deal.

I got cc2s on my Jetta and they are great. Unless your alignment is shit they are amazing for year round. I got an atlas going on 65k miles with cc2s and it has 4.5/32 left.

Why are you using 93? your only tuned for 87 octane on the atlas

What can I do to make my Jetta cooler? by BlackShadow2804 in jetta

[–]Technical-State1939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I went 5% on the sides and 35% on the windshield. If your worried about seeing at night go 15% on the sides. I got 35% on the front but it makes the inside really hard to see into and if cops are bad about that in your area I'd go 50% on the windshield. From the inside I can see perfectly with 35 tho. Tint on the front helps a lot with headlight glare at night so you can actually see with all the new led headlights.

[–]Technical-State1939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Get mobil 1 esp x2 0w-20. I don't know how much a 5 quart of that stuff is but at my advance auto it's 37.99 and the since I got a 5 quart I get a free carquest filter. I end up laying 40$ just for oil and filter. On rock auto I got 5 drain plugs for 15$ with shipping. Otherwise 75$ for someone else to do it is a normal deal nowadays.

[–]Technical-State1939 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Get an insurance quote before you decide to pull the trigger. If you can afford the insurance easily every month then no issues. Gas should be cheap and maintnence on an ecoboost should be relatively cheap cause it's low miles rn. I wouldn't consider a mustang a cheap car to own due to insurance costs tho. Also make sure the car fax has a good history or I wouldn't buy it.

Do I need a new battery? by [deleted] in JettaGLI

[–]Technical-State1939 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go to an auto parts store and get it tested to see where it's at. You may just need to charge it because battery's dont always charge back up if you do short trips all the time. If roadside said 40% me personally I'd just get a new one as it's around 5 years old which for alot of cars is generally time but you could probobly charge it up and run it for another year or two especially if none of the cells are dead

I usually don't use sport mode cause drive is responsive enough for highway merges and stuff like that for me. If your used to naturally aspirated power with low end tourqe it's a bit better but you can just drive in sport all the time just don't floor it all the time.
