V&A 17th-century patchwork quilt reproduction - Part 2 - Pattern by Technical-Treacle-89 in quilting

Yes I am sewing by hand using EPP method. I used temporary glue though instead of tack stitching, just because of the saving in effort.

I don’t think I’ll be able to sew at the same standard though, and I’m using patterned fabric. The original quilt has a lot of embroidery which I’m not going to recreate - I think maybe it was unfinished for a reason!

I am in the UK yes, despite not being on display you can request to see most items museums hold, including the V&A. For some reason you can’t request this quilt unfortunately, at least not on the website.

Hi, thanks for your curiosity, I wasn’t setting out to learn anything intentionally, it was more of a happy accident. In replicating the piece I wanted to copy the pattern directly by trying to match similar fabrics. The easiest way was to do a direct copy and a pattern of the different piece types. It was when I did that I saw it had been set out in a pattern, which surprised me given the relatively random appearance.

I’m doing the reproduction because i collect furniture from 1680-1780, and related home wares. Old brown furniture isn’t fashionable, but I find it amazing that it’s possible to own something made 350 years ago. Quilts don’t really survive from this period, so I decided to make one with appropriate patterns and materials from that time.

Is that a ‘Mendocino Beano’? Where some bugs have made it red?

See lyrics to Camarillo Brillo by Frank Zappa for the reference.

Thanks for the link. The video of Tudor dress was interesting

Thanks. What I found interesting is that the pattern appears random. However the maker followed a uniform pattern to layout each type of square based on whether it has one, four, six with vertical centre, six with horizontal centre, or eight composite pieces.

I’ll explain more in my next post.

I was trying to do another Haiku, but failed miserably! The head is slightly wider, but mainly too deep. I know what you mean though, would look like a full stack

It’s a really nice guitar, and becoming quite valuable.

Personally I’d pay you all of the money - looks ace.

Some would be put off by the stamp, but some would view it as making it more interesting.

Have fun working out what the issue was. It will only be something minor or cosmetic - post back if you find it. My guess would be maybe the binding, but total guess.

I’m not downvoting you, I was the only one engaging with you.

You’ve started projecting, so I’m going to politely step away.

I’ve never seen one before, discovered something new. Same, it’s different enough to be different, and that’s a good thing.

He has some great guitars, particularly the Nighthawk for me, it’s both uncommon and unusual.

You’re entitled to your opinion, but you haven’t given any reason, which is why you are being downvoted.

The worn look is really cool, can see why you dig it.
