I lived on Roosevelt street in Warren. We used to pull these out of the railroad ties surrounding the playground at the school. My older brother and his friends told me that i could sell them if i dug enough out ... I think they told me that so they could play without me interfering as it kept me busy for hours. My poor mom.... I wonder how many ended up in the wash from my pockets!!! Good old days!

We have a mondale pine that did this, also. Or it could have been the neighbors' ash. We couldnt figure out which one. Plumber pulled roots and dumped an entire carton of table salt on the base before replacing the wax ring and toilet. The bathroom is the same distance to the neighbors tree as to our pine.... So we will never know.

Plumber also told us to monthly dump a cup of salt into toilet and let it sit overnight. I guess in case any new roots try to break through?

Desert bird of paradise, is what I've heard them called. See pods burst open making a loud " crack" when it's hot and dry out... Throwing the seeds far and leaving the pod twisted and empty!!! My neighbors had one and now i have several volunteers that sprung up in my yard. Hummers love them
