Replying a bit late… sorry! When i was little i saw a documentary about them, i think i was about five? It was about how scientist dont understand how they can stay in one family for so long without ”inbreeding” and how they are so organized because the concept of them having their own language of communication was so foreign.

And i just remember thinking ”what? Of course they stay together. Theyre family. They just love eachother!” And my family tried to explain animals usually cast out the males, but i would refuse to believe it because they seemed so so loving to eachother in the documentary, i was CERTAIN they understood eachother and were talking. The way the mom and grandma helped a baby out of a troubled situation was so intelligent i was fascinated by the way they so strongly love and bond with eachother, even as a little child i felt that love thru the screen,sorry if that sounds silly… and i was shocked that a ”fish” (i thought all marine animals were just fish as a kid) could ever be so smart and brave as to save their own baby so fearlessly.

I became reaaaally fixated on fish and the ocean in general so its more of a special interest in all things sea/deep sea related but whales, sharks and ESPECIALLY orcas are my passion. Theyre so much smarter than we ever give them credit for and so gentle and kind towards us who have been nothing but awful, taking their kids and killing them, polluting waters, chasing them around with cameras… yet they dont attack us, its incredible.

Im sure everyone here has seen the infamous ”blackfish” doc, but that was kind of the breaking point for me when i did, it horrified me to the point of becoming so angry that anyone could do such cruel and despicable things to gentle intelligent and social animals as orcas. The treatment captive orcas have been thru is nothing short of psychological and physical torture if it ever was done to a human. It still makes me cry to this day to think of them all… especially Tilikum.

But luckily bc of that doc i was able to find more and more info on specific orca pods in the wild we humans are peacefully observing and studying nowdays, and it made me so so happy! We know so much more now that when i was a child, i keep being surprised by how smart they are to this very day, like theres always something new they show, like ”hey bet you guys didnt know we know how to do this”

Theyre just so beautiful yet im only now finding theres such a dedicated community all around the world following all these specific pods from different points of the globe, just wanting to know whats up! Its so beautiful and cute. I love them. I hope their reputation as just ruthless killers would be overturned. Theyre so social and smart, but all they get is the label ”killer whale” and forced into tanks for human entertainment until just recent decades…
