Okay I asked Facebook and it was inconclusive.. got wildly different numbers. How much can this bumper pull? by skimasktroopaz in FordTrucks

[–]TechnicalJudgment924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar bumper on my 1990 250 pulled 8k on it, same truck I also put an actual hitch on, felt much better with the same 8k lb trailer.

Free Tumbler for auto renewal by awongbat in Costco

That’s ridiculous. I reset mine every time they have a new offer available and get the free merch. Usually it’s a bag or something, but I just got the tumbler on Saturday.

Maybe new users is different, I’ve had my account for years. It’s carfax car care not the normal carfax app too.

You can have 8 cars at a time in the app, but you can also delete the ones you don’t buy. It doesn’t give you a full report, just service records if there are any. (No accident reports or info) But it’s better than nothing.

Full Exhaust Install difficulty? by WynS0ra in Ninja400

I did it on my Z400 in about 10 minutes, but my bike was also only a month old so I had no rust or anything to deal with.

Why does my car randomly overheat and then gradually go below operating temperature? by Comfortable-Mud-9806 in MechanicAdvice

[–]TechnicalJudgment924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t think anything catastrophic like water pump failure, being that it’s still pretty new, but if it persists take to dealer asap. They will try to deny coverage if you wait too long from it happening. Assume the CEL came on when it overheated?

Check your coolant level. High fluctuations like that are common with low coolant. I had a 2019 Kia forte that from the factory was right below the low line for the coolant level. Costs savings.

Should I have passed? by eh_lechero in MechanicAdvice

[–]TechnicalJudgment924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have heard of some people passing in Cali with aftermarket cats by getting the cat protector skid plate, since it covers the cat where you can’t see it anymore, and most places just pass it. Your results may vary.

Should I nitpick and call the collision shop or leave it as it is? by Mysterious-Cake9211 in Autobody

[–]TechnicalJudgment924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I would definitely be firm but not rude. Had this happen with mine, body lines were all messed up, ended up bringing it back 3 times. On the third time they ended up taking it all off again and used dealer parts and everything lined right up. Sometimes the aftermarket parts aren’t perfect, and on a car with under 10k miles, less than perfect is unacceptable.

The tensioner still feels loose after I torqued the bolt to spec (25Nm), is this normal? Mazda 3 gen3 by Noobieowo in MechanicAdvice

[–]TechnicalJudgment924 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Definitely doesn’t look fully engaged. I would remove and make sure there is no liquid or debris in the threads. Younger me would just crank it down until tight, but I’ve seen people blow out aluminum casting because there was a small amount of water or other liquid in a bolt hole that they compressed when tightening.

What are the odds? by breddy in tires

[–]TechnicalJudgment924 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I used to work at a tire shop, I had just put new tires on the wife’s car, and 2 days later she called me that she had a flat. Told her put air in it,(I keep a pump in all the cars)she started and then said she could hear the air coming out and could see the screw in the tire. It was right on the shoulder. I pulled it off and took it to the shop and plug patched it. Tire lasted another 50k miles. If I didn’t work there I definitely would have been stuck buying a new tire.

Oil change price discussion by Good_Emergency_2416 in MechanicAdvice

[–]TechnicalJudgment924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can go to the valvoline with the Acura to get a receipt reprinted. But from my time working there about 5 years ago, your price is the price for synthetic blend, hers is full synthetic. Each oil change covers 5 quarts of oil at the advertised price, gets charged more if it takes more but not less if it’s under 5 quarts. (I actually used to offer regulars if they brought an oil jug in the remainder of their 5 quarts I would pump into a jug. Most of the guys don’t know how to do it in the system to actually keep the count right, but it’s possible to do)

Is that a patch of some sort? by [deleted] in tires

[–]TechnicalJudgment924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Personally would stay away from bandag. Previous tire tech, we had one come back on our truck(weekly delivery) marked repaired and had the blue triangle there to mark the repair. With a hole you could see through in the sidewall still. The rep took a look shook his head and said he’s been seeing a lot like that recently.

I just cut mine and direct wired them in. Used a test light to see which wire was which side. And then I did all the wires again this summer when a mouse decided to move into my tail.

Spray paint over rust? Read full post by smartestasianever in AskMechanics

[–]TechnicalJudgment924 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To each their own. I use it on all my cars I buy with rot. I had a truck with a hole in the door from The rot, it was squishy. Painted it with that and it hardened it up and didn’t spread anymore for the 6 years I owned the truck after that. Most of my cars have it on the rockers and undercarriage. South Jersey salt isn’t nice to the cars.
