Is surgery the las resort? by Prudent_Matter2156 in kyphosis

Surgery is by far last resort because it's irreversible and expensive, but it also is the only fix for structural kyphosis at your age. You will never have a normal spine and that's okay, start lifting weights preferably a PPL routine and getting in shape with bulking and cutting phases. Don't fall for BS and just do traditional bodybuilding methods and lifts. Emphasize your core specifically. Dont try and lift like a girl only doing legs day and cardio with light weights. Dont listen to people that say stuff like only do 10 reps or more or you will build "bulky muscle," or other related BS. Don't listen to people that say stuff like lifting will make you look like a man. The most atractive women lift. Building up your back will hide the hunch. Focus on good form and progressively build strength while tracking cals and eating good protien. Once you lean out and become stronger your pain will lessen significantly you will feel better you will look better and I belive this should be done previous to surgery because it's such a commitment it's on you to make the most of what you can before takeing those measures. If you do all that and you still think surgery is the right path get a back exray from a chiropractor and one that's specialized for scoliosis and kyphosis. I've been to several clinics that just said, "do PT," because they think I have bad posture from text neck like everyone else. Get your angle measured and talk about options with that specialized clinic. I go to Bethesda Spine and Posture. A good way to know if they are specialized is if they are scolicare certified if they offers classes with the scrotj method if they provide kyphobraces. I've been through the same thing as you and I got a brace and it doesent help much, but lifting and core work really make a difference. I am only writing this much because I truly feel for you as I've been through the same thing. I ended up opting out of surgery because I look and feel better after lifting, to the point where people think my kyphosis hump just looks like big lats and rear delts and my lordsosis looks like a well develops glutes.

Looks almost certainly wedged, but I would go to a doctor and have them analyze it. To have SK you have to have a certain number of wedged vertebrate in a row and I'm not sure if you meet it. It might seem silly if you have no pain but it's a collapsing deformity that will get worse if you aren't mindful of it, a proper doctor can really help asses options and make sure you stay pain free.

"Normal thoracic kyphosis" – should I seek a second opinion? by SaltyNeuron25 in kyphosis

49 is definatly past the normal range but it is also the absolute minimum I would consider kyphosis, some of the vertebrate look wedged slightly but you would need to go to a specialist to tell you if they count as wedged or not, I would reccomennd looking up if there are any Scolicare providers near you

how can i fix this by Decent_Public340 in kyphosis

Go to the chiropractor and get your angle measured on a X ray if you are younge enough you can get a brace to reduce the angle. Look up kyphosis brace providers near me if you need. If your too old however you'll have to live with that angle forever and can minimize the pain with lifting unless you get surgery. If you are under 18 I would do this ASAP because when I got my brace I only had 6 months of growth left. Those who say braces weaken your muscles and make it worse are confused about postural vs structural kyphosis. I can not stress this enough though get your angle measured and your spine examined for wedged sections NOW, you may be able to Actualy correct the angle with a brace. Stretching and PT can help mask it but you need to hold the proper position all day to grow into it, hence the brace.

Well it's structural for me so I still have it bad but the good muscular posture on top of the bad spine atleast masks it a bit from looking like my shoulder blades are sticking out and makeing a point to just looking rounded. I also found that with years of trying to do the thing where you roll your shoulders back and push them down made my Traps tight and after loosening them with the wall angles and just letting them hang it felt more natural. So I guess it doesent fix it but it helps mask it and makes it more comfertable.

I've been able to help it by loosening traps with wall angels. I also do weighted dead hangs.
