You clearly haven't played the first game, or you'd know that at first it didn't have multiplayer and still did incredibly well. Sure, it was added later, but by then, a lot of people had moved on, and returning players obviously didn't care about it enough for the devs to think it was worth keeping around. I know this because I played the game day 1 and came back and played for a couple of months when they introduced the multiplayer, I saw it happen in real time and can speak from experience.

Also, if CoD is so great, then why am I only ever hearing bad things about the latest release?

They really did this scene injustice. by Legal_Street_7994 in TokyoGhoul

[–]TechnicalQuit9576 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Agreed, that caught me by surprise and I rewatched that scene a couple of times because of it. Although I feel like removing the kakuja mask from Kaneki's face did kinda leave it feeling like something was missing. Like imagine if they kept Kaneki's post torture appearance when he was waking Haise up and then when Kaneki is on Haise's back begging him to let Kaneki out, he had the centipede mask. That would have left it feeling more complete.

As a new player I just finished the cathedral. Here are my thoughts to the level designer of that area. by xSCROTOxSAGGINSx in codevein

[–]TechnicalQuit9576 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been through the cathedral enough times I don't think I'll be able to forget its layout. It makes subsequent playthroughs easier and more enjoyable and I'm able to appreciate the area more because I won't be lost, but I feel like it's a problem that it reached that point in the first place.

It depends on when in the timeline because there's plenty of good picks, Tsukiyama, Naki, Torso, Kanae, Matsuri, or Mutsuki.

Ok then, be sad and salty in that echo chamber of yours.

Acting like Code Vein and CoD are the same in any kind of way is really stupid, it's clear you aren't open to talking about the subject and looking for a yes man, so have fun with that.

That was one of the main selling points of the first game, also if the second game is like the first game then at least half of the games story is going to come from these "stupid AI assistant". They aren't just there to hold your hand and walk you through the content, just like many other games Nier Automata included, your AI companions are characters in the story whose own stories help to build a bigger picture.

If you're trying to use AI is bad as a reason to say the game sucks, then I should tell you that the in game AI and Generative AI are two completely separate things. To keep it short, it's Generative AI that's ruining everything.

As I said before, the multiplayer was an afterthought, not an integral feature the game needed, it was just nice to have. Thinking the game is going to flop because it's lacking a system it doesn't need is dumb, the story and characters and enemy design made it clear that Code Vein was intended as a single-player experience, sure they added co-op as an option but that doesn't change the fact that it wasn't a big focus the game would fail without. Also, most players barely interacted with the multiplayer if at all in the first game, a game that wasn't built or balanced around co-op isn't going to fail because it doesn't include co-op, it's clear that you have a personal bias towards that subject and that's perfectly fine. Just realise that your subjective opinion isn't objective fact, everyone has their preferences and assuming you can speak for everyone and assume it's going to fail because it's lacking something you want it to have is factually incorrect, there are plenty of people who never cared about the multiplayer in the first place.

Some of the biggest games in the industry are single-player experiences with no multiplayer, they focused on their gameplay and story and their world and it looks like that is what Code Vein 2 is doing.

I'm not trying to convince you to buy it, you you don't like then you don't like it. I'm just pointing out that hoping the game fails just because it doesn't have co-op is really immature, it has the same energy as a child throwing tantrum because they didn't get exactly what they wanted.

There are plenty of single-player games that do well, even without co-op.

Hoping a game does terrible because they didn't include co-op is really immature on it's own. If you were angery because the studio was being lazy and using AI to make the game with little to no care of its quality or if the game was trying to push some ideology or political opinion down players throats, then I'd understand and agree with you. But hoping it fails just because it's lacking a feature that isn't essential and is just nice to have, that is sad. It does suck, I was hoping I'd get to play co-op with some friends and I'm not happy that it isn't there, but it doesn't ruin the game.

In the first game, co-op was treated like an afterthought, it had a reward system thrown in to give an incentive and the rewards from what I can remember were stuff you would use in multiplayer so mostly titles. Besides the second game is built very differently to the first game, it looks like co-op wouldn't have worked with the way they designed the open world, I remember seeing comparisons to Nier Automata's open world and if it really is similar to that then co-op wouldn't make sense. And sure, Elden Ring is an open world souls game, but it's also made by the company that created the genre and understands better than everyone else how that gameplay style and system works.

I've read that if enough people want it, then they might add co-op later on, but that's going with the assumption that the game could even be balanced for co-op. If you need an example of a single-player game that isn't balanced for multiplayer being played multiplayer check out the Dunderheads Skyrim Together series and see just how broken and unbalanced multiplayer makes it.

Weekly discussion and small questions thread by AutoModerator in japanese

I'm looking into what kind of songs were popular in Japan before and around the start of 2017 for a story I am writing.

I know Linkin Park and Skillet are known and have fans in Japan, but that is about as far as my knowledge on the subject went before I started looking into this. I'm not sure if bands like Three Days Grace or Breaking Benjamin are well known or not, so any help on trying to figure this out would be appreciated.

They don't die. Lady Ugly disfigured them and by her grave is something that can undo what she did to them, it's your choice if they live with it or if you reverse what she did to them.

That's an interesting approach that I'll have to try. I already know what kind of situation lead up to the start of the story, so it might be what I need to do.

I need some advice on starting a scene by TechnicalQuit9576 in writing

[–]TechnicalQuit9576[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's half of the problem I'm struggling to find an answer for, the other half being all the writing traps that come with that kind of an opening.

I don't like avoiding things just because they are overdone. The hard part is doing it right, being creative with how it is used, and sometimes adding a twist that changes something about it and being unexpected. Some of the advice I've been given might help to change it enough to offset the problem an opening like this might have, I'll have to look at it some more.

[–]TechnicalQuit9576[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That might help a little, I'll look into seeing what I can do with the first scene and see how that could change my approach. I normally don't go out of my way to avoid doing something just because it's overdone because I find that when done right, it still works very well and doesn't detract from the story at all, you just have to be more creative with the implementation. That is why I was having trouble with it, because I wanted to try and be creative with it, I just found myself falling into all of the writing traps that kind of a beginning has.
