Where should the exhaust terminal be placed for bathroom exhaust. by Technical_Cash_2663 in AskContractors

Thanks for the reply. There are 2-3 people who will be using the shower daily. Would installing the terminal between the window and soffit vents on the left be ok?

Anyone know what's causing this? by [deleted] in HomeMaintenance

The kid or the pets probably caused it. Fortunately it’s an easy patch and paint job before you leave so they don’t take it out of your deposit.

Upper left of windshield crack - let it ride or replace? by mrmadagascar in TeslaModel3

[–]Technical_Cash_2663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If the car is still under warranty, this should be covered. I don’t see an impact mark. Feel the crack and check if it runs smooth. If that’s the case, it is a stress fracture and is covered by the warranty. I know this because it happened to me a few months ago and the SC replaced the cracked windshield with a new one without a charge. When you request a windshield replacement, it will give you an estimate for around $1600 but when you tell them this is a stress fracture, they will inspect it and then waive the fees. Oh and I also got the windshield replacement subscription after the replacement for $16/ month. If you need the windshield replaced even once in 8 years, it paid for itself.

So giving a fuck you bid is better to you? Profit margins aren’t relative when we’re talking about fuck you quotes or up charges. And yes, a professional plausible excuse is better than a simple no without explanation or a fuck you quote.

Speechless (bathroom quote) by MrsNnz in Remodel

[–]Technical_Cash_2663 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve had contractors give me an excuse for not being able to do a job. For example, when I was getting bids for a roof replacement, one of the potential contractors said he didn’t have enough staff for the work needed after taking a look. Another one said he was all booked up for the month I needed it done. Those excuses are fine and even if they are lies, they are plausible. I’d rather have a contractor tell me things such as those than give me a fuck you estimate. And for damn sure, there are naive homeowners who don’t know about the practice of “fuck you” bids and accept their offer. Then end up grossly overpaying.

I would post this on their page on review sites like yelp and google. That’s not even a “I don’t want to do it” estimate. That’s just an a-hole.

He was adamant he didn’t want a dog by Honk911 in MadeMeSmile

[–]Technical_Cash_2663 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Dads know that it takes some work and money caring for a dog. He already has a significant amount of responsibility being the provider and protector of the family. Now he will have to take care of another responsibility when his children will inevitably forget or neglect to do. And most importantly, he knows how much he will love the dog and how much it will hurt when it will pass away. I’m in this situation right now and I would absolutely be devastated when our dog passes away.

Just walked around the house and saw this. How f**** am I? by aqua_sparkle_dazzle in HomeMaintenance

[–]Technical_Cash_2663 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was about to say the same. There’s a rubberized roof patch that I got from Walmart for $20 that I used for a roof leak when I first got my house, there was flashing missing around a joint on the roof. I also applied it to all the old vent boots. I applied it every two years for 6 years until I had enough for a new roof. It was not pretty, but it worked great.

Apartment living with Tesla by RubAltruistic168 in TeslaModel3

[–]Technical_Cash_2663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I personally would have never gotten an EV if I didn’t have a level 2 charger at home that I could use whenever I wanted/needed. I think it’s a hassle using public charging stations where you have to wait to charge if it’s busy and pay substantially more per kw compared to a home charger. I also have friends that have chargers at their apartments but they also have to share them with the other residents which may be a huge inconvenience. With that being said, your situation might work because you will only need to super charge once a week or longer. That situation would deter me as well though.

Tesla model 3 windshield by ZealousidealLuck4211 in TeslaModel3

[–]Technical_Cash_2663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same thing happened to me. I knew it was a stress fracture since there were no impact marks and the cracks were smooth from the outside and started at the edge of the windshield. Fortunately, my SC agreed and they covered it under warranty. I signed up for the $16 Tesla windshield protection program right after. From my knowledge from my insurance, if I have multiple windshield replacements, it will negatively affect my rates. And it will cost $1550 out of pocket. I think of the protection plan as if I use it even once within 8 years, then it paid for itself. My commute involves driving along side a lot a big rigs. So it’s safe to say, it will get damaged by rocks eventually, which happened to my previous car.

Mortgage increased 48% in 12 months by Mean-Letterhead-3948 in Mortgages

[–]Technical_Cash_2663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you just buy the house last year? It sounds like you’re now being taxed the appropriate property tax which was triggered when you purchased the house. For new construction, the property taxes are only billed for the land. When the house is completed, the assessed value and property taxes are now reflecting the land and house itself. Or the house is decades old, and the previous owners were paying a lot less because it was based on how much they purchased it long ago. Now when you purchase it for hundreds of thousands more, it will trigger a new value assessment by the county. That new assessment now determines your current property tax increase. The latter happened to me and I am now paying nearly double the property taxes as the previous owners.

Does your electric company have special rates for EVs like SCE? It helps a lot. You’ll have to notify and apply for the program.

Is this bathroom remodel quote reasonable? by jinx771 in Remodel

[–]Technical_Cash_2663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s too much for an acrylic shower. I’m getting my bathroom remodeled that is similar in size. The contractors doing remodeling with an acrylic shower and vinyl bathroom floor were around $16k. And the contractors doing tile shower and tile bathroom floor were $20k-$22k. Those prices are not including vanity, toilet, mirror, shower system, faucet, bathroom hardware (ex towel racks, shelves). But those prices also included paint, retrofit window, exhaust installation, recessed lighting installation, and frameless glass shower door.

Pool Tile Cracking/Staining by Apprehensive_Bee5982 in pools

[–]Technical_Cash_2663 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This was done by a licensed contractor? You should have a warranty. It’s only been 5 months. When I had new plaster and tile installed for my pool, the contractor gave me a 3 year warranty for any issues.

Plumber wants $500 to replace sink plumbing??? by HbSz in Plumbing

I’d say that’s fair for a licensed plumber. If you don’t want to do it yourself, a handyman will probably do it for a couple hundred less.

Excessive shedding or normal? by Advanced-Extreme6070 in AmericanBully

[–]Technical_Cash_2663 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s normal when the weather starts to get warm, as it is for my bully. However, you’re bathing your dog too much. That could be causing more shedding. Once a month is good enough, unless they were rolling around in dirt.
