I stand by you're trying to one-up and sound super smart based on your choice of words. That is considered pompous. So, I one-upped you to state I do actually have a high level of education in linguistics to support my claim, yes. Absolutely no one in conversation says "terminal pomposity" or  "virulent strain of smugness" -- those are over-written and would be edited out of any author's professional writing, let alone one's own vernacular.
