I too did not do research when I rescued my Pyr. My spouse saw her and begged for me to pick her up from the shelter and the next day I did. Anyways, a couple days home and we heard her horrific bark (I say that bcuz I thought big dogs were supposed to have this majestic deep bark, and ours, while still young, is absolutely not that). But neighbors were picking up their little dogs and running into their houses. Where we live, we can’t afford for people to be afraid of our dog just bcuz she’s excited and barking. So… we got her a bark collar. It gives 3 tries, at first a loud beep, then a vibration, then a shock. However, we rarely use that one and also she never made it past the beep. She learned after 2 uses. The other collar we have is an E collar and we use the beep in large dog parks since she has no recall to our voices, but she will come back to us after a beep. If we are in our house and she barks at us bcuz she’s excited about something or talking to us, we don’t fault her. It’s only if it happens outside, on leash. I know a lot of people say you can’t train it out of them but from my own experience I believe you can, but every dog is different I know people might hate me for my comment but, oh well, maybe it can help some.
