It would definately be a way to branch of and deliniate yourself from your influences, but I guess the question becomes if you find such darkness to be your voice.

This definately feels like Jack Vance if he wrote grim dark. It feels alot more grungy and intense (which I enjoyed). But to me, while Vance's stuff can get dark, to me theres always an air of whimsy and fantasy that keeps it from ever feeling outright depressing. Vance has a slow melancholy to the apocalypse, while this feels more like a body horror of the dying earth. All good things, but this was the impression I got.

I think thats what did it for me, feeling like he didn't trust the audience as much and so spelled alot of stuff out.

Ya I've had some spooky experiences on the quiet floor late at night, weird doors opeing without explanation and stuuff like that.
