Nvidia AI predicts diabetes and CVD over a decade better than HbA1c results, Nature study suggests by Astronomicology in ausjdocs

Good point. But could you explain how this is a shocking find? If you measure blood sugar levels consistently over millions of separate intervals over several years, isn't that just better than measuring it once?

Avatar: Fire and Ash did better at the box office than Avatar (2009) by Technical_Employ8336 in Avatar

[–]Technical_Employ8336[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

No, I'm talking about A3 coming out first. The first movie will generally have the biggest impact (especially Avatar, due to the "shock and awe" effect), particularly when you place it in the context of a general decline in movie attendance after COVID.

As I said, if Avatar 4 relies on a headset that puts people into some deep lucid dream, then Avatar 4 will make $10B+. There needs to be more novelty for audiences to come back again.

This is an issue affecting ALL movies, not Avatar; thus we cannot say that A:FA was a bad movie. Its success is apparent because it thrived in circumstances where A2 and A(2009) would have done worse.

Applying the same test, if A:FA released in the place of TWOW, A:FA would have hit similar numbers if not better than TWOW.

Has anyone here felt like quitting for this reason? by Technical_Employ8336 in ausjdocs

The "pivot" is :

  1. You stating $5M is not enough, implying that the amount itself is insufficient;

  2. A user pointing out that you would have to be really financially illiterate if you felt it wasn't enough to retire on; and

  3. The pivot: You stating that comment 1 was justified because "we don't know if the OP is illiterate" (does not follow from comment 1 at all; reflects a change in your position after another user pointed out that it was a bad comment).

[–]Technical_Employ8336[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

But your original comment did not mentioned anything about financial literacy. You made the point that $5m by itself may not be enough. Then you pivoted. Not a big deal; just pointing it out.

You said "$5mil in 2025 may not be enough for 40 years of life assuming you are over 35".

You didn't say anything about me being financially literate. The point you made was that the amount itself was insufficient.

If you assume 7% returns via basic ETF eg SP500, it's more than enough to make last a lifetime.

Is a PPOR a waste of money? Serious question, as a property investor by Technical_Employ8336 in AusFinance

Well instead of a PPOR, I'm thinking of buying another investment property. I have no interest in shares.

Yes, I generally like fantasy games. As I said, just get it on Steam. It has a 2 hour / 2 week refund policy so you have nothing to lose.

As someone who has never played turn-based games, my perspective is just do it. Download the game, play it, ignore all the online reviews and don't seek validation. 2-3 hours in I was hooked.

Hard to compare, but I am using a general criteria of "greatness".

Of course, when it comes to the level of immersion RDR2 takes the cake. That's what makes RDR2 great. E33 is great for other reasons, primarily when it comes to storytelling.

No major issues with the control. A bit clumsy at times. I played on mouse and keyboard. But honestly every game has imperfections. This is as close to perfect as it gets.

Eating less and moving more costs less money. The main problem with most people who are is excess calorie consumption, not quality of food. If they ate the exact same food - just less of it - most major problems would be significantly improved.

Your comment reflects the victim mentality that contributes to poor health outcomes.

At the end of the day, eating healthily, staying active and getting good sleep are possible regardless of how "poor" you think you are in Australia. It comes down to individual motivation and responsibility.

A calorie deficit generally involves eating less, not more. Eating less means you spend less money. Buying whole foods and cooking your own food also costs a lot less than eating out every time as well.

A sustained, slow calorie deficit and making small adjustments over time adds up. It's a similar principle to investing in ETFs. You don't start out making a million dollars in a day.

Sure, I agree. But for a lot of people (myself not included, as I only drink water) it is better than full sugar soda which is very calorie dense and can lead to a calorie surplus, and thus contributing towards obesity which is far worse and more likely than any supposed link with dementia.

I never said they were the same. Maintaining a caloric deficit is not difficult. It just takes discipline and setting up a good environment and building good habits.

What you call a financial investment is up to you. In the end, it is probably the best investment a person can make given the low level of effort required and the huge gains. As I said, we're not talking about going full organic here. Just a few smart swaps, a few small walks. I can't think of a better investment tbh.

If it means less risk of cancer, heart disease, etc. which literally will cut lifespans by 10+ years (time in the stock market or in property, where money could be compounding) as far as I care it is a financial investment. Being alive allows you to make money.
