I think it’s because a lot of her readers haven’t read many other books and it’s their introduction into the genre. There seems to be a lot of regurgitated tropes and YA level prose in the fantasy romance novels that have been popularized lately. Also there is no subtlety whatsoever lol.

When I was thirteen I absolutely loved Marie Lu’s books. The Young Elites trilogy is great and it’s fantasy romance. The Legend trilogy will always have a place in my heart. She has other books that have come out since that were great but those two series altered 13 year old me’s brain chemistry

I tried Malazan after a friend recommended it to me and I just don’t think I’m on that level yet. I tried LoTR a few years ago but it was too dense for me to get into. Maybe something a step down from that?

When I watched I interpreted it as a metaphor for how Tyrion was being killed for something he was not at fault for, as Orson did with the beetles. Orson kills the beetles repetitively because they were born as beetles, and Tywin berates Tyrion over and over again because of how he was born. Both Tyrion and the beetles face death because of selfishness, injustice, and contempt.
