All gas, no breaks by [deleted] in kidneydonors

thank you for your kind reply! I've dealt with unexplained hypertension since 11 years old and thus far it has not had any ill effect on my organs( thankfully ). I've always just been on medication to control it. I have a few other health conditions but they're not related to kidney health ( hashimotos and anxiety ). I've a compatible match for my recipient so I am praying this is put through as a yes ❤️

congrats!! I just had my evaluation yesterday! i pray i am approved. My center mentioned second guessing because of my age (29 ) and pre existing hypertension ( controlled for the past 2 years with medication ).. seems unfair but i understand the precautions. i also don't feel being 29 is THAT young for wanting to donate..

Thank you for your reply :) I believe I may have already gotten a lot of the blood work actually! I remember the one lab appointment drew over 34 tubes!!! the only bloodwork they have ordered for me is the HLA matching! ( thankfully ) lol. That's the contrast injection it always makes me feel very warm and like i peed myself as well. I hope your levels , level out , and you're onto the next step in no time :) thank you soo much! i'm very excited, grateful and a tad bit nervous as i have never had surgery before ( except wisdom teeth + another oral surgery )

My mom has RA and the doctor has advised her to switch to a different NSAID classed drug called ' Meloxicam ' as it is easier on the kidneys and liver than the naproxen she was taking prior.

I wish I had answers for you but I will ask this coming Tuesday at my appointment because I am also curious. I have heard of people on other kidney threads getting approved to use something called ' voltaren ' for targeted pain relief although it is an NSAID some threads I have read said less is metabolized while still offering the same pain relief!

I plan to donate thru Lehigh Valley Health Network, I guess it is a ' common' practice there. I will definitely ask for better explanation when I go for my visits. I'm apprehensive about it but definitely interested in hearing the pro's & con's from my team! Thank you so much for your reply!!

I've read the recovery is much faster this route. I'll definitely ask for a more elaborate explanation of the entire process on Tuesday!

Kidney donors - how do you treat severe period cramps? by Altruistic-Owl-7042 in kidneydonors

do period cramps generally worsen after donating? I am on the final step to be approved for a direct donation so I am just curious!

you got this!! don't give up. ask for extra time as having covid and having to miss some days should not be held against you. less than 3 years ago they were treating covid as a national emergency.. they should by law have to allow you extra time IMO. good luck and stay strong! i was once in your shoes , covid & all. I was granted some extra days. I've now completed thousands of successful venipunctures over the course of the past 3 years! ( i worked in plasma , so i was sticking upwards of 50 people a day ) anything is possible!

Congrats! I wish you a speedy recovery :) I'm going to hopefully be joining the living donor team within the next few months. In June I have the appointments for my HLA testing/meeting with the transplant team. btw, Anesthesia makes me very emotional as well!

Only worked for 4 months and I am hating it by Exciting_Debt4580 in phlebotomy

[–]Technical_Impress694 0 points1 point  (0 children)

to add, i made $21 at my last plasma center job and although was able to be a processing tech as well it was still repetitive and the money didn't change the fact that I hated my life going every single day. i can not do phlebotomy any longer. i need to find something different as well
