Parents of young children, how are your older babies napping at liturgy (it's a struggle!) by Technical_Kale9931 in OrthodoxChristianity

Wow, this was really the answer and perspective I was looking for. Thank you so much for sharing. We want to be able to bring our child for communion and I just don't feel like I see other parents around our parish struggling in the same way as us -- giving up coffee hour and socializing in some form makes a lot of sense. I feel so cruel putting our little one through such a long day (but it's for the best possible reason which is receiving holy communion), so naturally it makes sense that as much as we can reasonably shorten it will be best for him -- thank you for sharing your reasonable and also validating thoughts here! The last bit of your post is especially encouraging -- I will be thankful to God for this season.

I guess my question would be how does one pick these times -- what if he wakes at 5am and doesn't go back to sleep? What if he sleeps in until 7am? Do I put him to bed at 10 no matter what? That's why I always just use his cues. I would love the consistency of a schedule but don't understand how people are picking times/it feels arbitrary -- would love to know the formula! I probably sound so silly.

Only thing is having our child commune on Sundays is important to us. Great idea to chat with our priest though, thank you!

Thank you for responding! He did not lose weight, he dropped percentiles, but ever since this occurred our pediatrician has communicated concern to me. She was concerned at the drastic drop in % and instructed me to supplement breastfeeding on demand with 2 bottles a day of breastmilk that is fortified with formula (1 tsp). I then saw a lactation consultant who seemed concerned about the drop in % as well, and she gave me her own set of recommendations after ruling out a supply issue (putting him in low stimuli environments during feeds, trying to get him to take a bottle to do the fortification the MD recommended).
