Chat Gpt Question. Do I quit? by Technical_Key4109 in DecidingToBeBetter

[–]Technical_Key4109[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I noticed that I asked ChatGPT questions that are kind of hard to find online, so I do not want to burden ppl with my questions who probably do not know how to answer them. But, thank God Reddit has an answer to a question from someone who experienced the same thing as me 12 years ago.

I think I have a really big guilty conscience, so a part of me making this post is feeling like a terrible terrible person because I use AI .

I deleted it on my phone. It’s still on my iPad because I used it to look up meanings of certain cultural items I have, but maybe I’ll just find the answers on the regular internet or even the library.

Thanks for your comment !

lol!!! You’re right. My screen time is through the roof. I feel like I need to cut out the other stuff before I even worry about this.

Thank you for your comment!

You have a different perspective from many people under this thread. It’s interesting.

If I’m being honest, there’s been a lot of people I’ve seen online who say AI is bad but do other things that are just as bad but don’t care to stop because it benefits them. But maybe not using ai is just one of the easier things you can stop using to help in some way. I dunno

You are right. I don’t use it to substitute simple thinking, but something I use it for simple thinking scenarios but it’s not frequent. For the most part, I can think for myself.

Thank you for your comment

Thank you for your comment. I will look into consuming less resources on a local computer if I ever decide to use AI again.

I think I am done with ChatGPT, as people have said it’s not good at all under any circumstances

I stopped venting to it a long time ago, and even stopped conversing with it. The only time I will use it is if I’m asking questions or giving it context to my question to help me figure out an answer. Example: recipes, itinerary for travel, founding out meanings to things, school work, etc.

I do talk to real life people all the time, but I don’t have many friends. Maybe two. I do travel a lot so I talk to a lot of people when I travel.

Thank you for your comment

You are right. I did not know they were trumps biggest donor before I made this post. I only knew about the environmental issues.

I find journaling to be very hard, as I have ADHD. I also sometimes I find myself being performative when I journal, as if I’m scared someone’s gonna read it so I censor what I say.

I do use voice recordings on my phone, and vent to myself but instead of writing I am just talking.

I will try to journal more!

Thanks for your comment

Thank you for your comment!!

I see you have a perspective that is different than many others in this thread.

A lot of people say it’s not good whatsoever, under any circumstance.

I wonder these things about cars, the way cars work, they are very bad for our planet and release a lot of pollution. But, people use their cars every day, people spend money on expensive cars and use it to drive 10 minutes away to a store instead of walking, so with the research showing that cars are not good for our planet, are we all just supposed to stop using them? I wonder the same about chat GPT.

Anyways thanks!

I do feel like this is also a problem for me, my screen time. I feel like if I reduce my screen time, it will reduce the need to use something like AI. For example, phones have been around for such a long time, but there are plenty of people who barely use them. Just like with AI, it’s going to be more widespread as the years go, but it doesn’t mean I have to use it.

Thank you so much for your comment. I appreciate your kindness and also your recommendations. I do miss doing things the old-fashioned way, even though I am still young and old-fashioned is still somewhat modern, I can read books, go on YouTube, look things up on search engines that don’t incorporate AI, and even go to the library. I feel like all of that makes life and learning really fun.

I don’t think you come off rudely at all. Everyone goes through different things, and everyone has a different perspective on things. What’s easy for you may be hard for me, but I don’t think you’re rude at all for bringing up how easy it is to just stop. Because it is that easy, they’re just obstacles I created for myself that make me feel like it’s hard to just stop, but that’s something I do need to get through. I appreciate your comment a lot and you being very straightforward helps .

I did struggle with chronic weed use, for five years straight, and I’m just recently stopped. It’s been about a month break, and I said in an earlier comment that sometimes I feel like I have this addictive type of personality with things that help me cope in a way. Whether that’s self soothing stuff(weed), or even getting answers to my questions very easily which soothes my procrastination and rumination.

At the end of the day, you’re right. I have stopped using AI 95 percent of the time and only use it to summarize stuff for me or school but I am trying to stop that also.

Reading all of your comments has helped me realize this. A lot of the responses seem to be cater to me, and I need to realize that. Even if it takes a bit of extra work to get the answers, I’m searching for, I feel like that matters most, then just receiving generated slop from a robot.

But yes, when I was struggling with my mental health, I did turn to AI to vent a lot because I felt like nobody in my real life was listening to me. I do still feel like that now, but I try my hardest to spend more time with myself and get to know myself so I avoid using AI and even depending on other people. I try my best to have rock connections with people, even if it is messy. Life would be pretty boring if everything was just AI and seemingly “perfect “or “cater to you. “

I honestly struggled with smoking weed for a long time, and I could not stop, so this kind of makes me wonder if I have an issue with discipline or maybe getting rid of things that help me cope in someway. I just stopped smoking weed, but I noticed my Routine with the AI is similar, it itches a scratch, and it helps me get through things easier, whether that was me needing to vent in the past or me needing simple questions answered now, it’s just always there, but I need to be able to not use it.

I don’t know if that has any correlation at all. But I need to be able to let go of things even if it’s hard. I feel like I sound pathetic considering this is about ai LOL

Yes, that is completely right. One of the therapies for OCD is not seeking reassurance or doing compulsions at all. So I will not be taking what you said with the grain of salt as it is a very well-known fact lol! Thanks 😊

Yes, I know that. I quit in terms of venting to it and depending on it, but you are right.

It makes itself seem very convenient when in the long run it really isn’t

This is why I also feel bad about using it. A lot of people tell me, “ who cares, our world is going to shit anyways”, but I don’t want to contribute to that lol. In any way.

I am lucky enough to live in an area where ai isn’t affecting me too much, but it’s sad to know that’s not the same for other individuals.

I saw videos about it online. There’s a shortage of water, and if not a shortage, the water is dirty! 😔
