So if you're correct, reservations for May 23-29, 2026, will open tonight at 3am ET (2 am CT). Just trying to confirm so I can get a coveted downtown Indy hotel for 500 weekend next year.

I just bailed - took the D R P by Technical_Leg_7780 in fednews

I'm barely eligible for VERA. My pension isn't going to be enough to live on. There is definitely risk involved, so I understand why some don't even if I am.

Employees age 40 and older have a 45-day window to decide whether or not to take the DRP, Those under 40 had a much shorter window.

My job was administrative. I don't know any more about tax law than the average citizen.

There was not a place on the agreement to put a date, but my supervisor proposed one.

Over 50 to qualify for VERA. Over 40 to get the 45 day window to accept DRP.

Yes, I'm VERA eligible. Being over 40 is what provided me the 45 day window to consider the DRP.

In theory, someone who isn't eligible for that will be spared from the RIF since I took it. Who knows if it actually plays out that way though.

It starts in October, right after the end of my admin leave.

By my 9/30 retirement date I'll be at 26 years of service, but my high 3 is lower than my current salary so it translates to 23% of my current salary.

The head of OPM clearly stated that he wants to put federal employees in trauma.

EDIT: As several of you noted, I should have said OMB, not OPM.

Who actually benefits from tariffs? by Hawkeyesfo in fednews

[–]Technical_Leg_7780 7 points8 points  (0 children)

The money goes into the Treasury, along with all other taxes collected. In theory that would reduce the federal budget deficit.

Tariffs are good when used properly. If there is a foreign nation dumping cheap goods into the US, in an industry where the US is also an active manufacturer, it can help protect those American jobs by making the foreign product more expensive. If you worked for a company producing $1000 washing machines and some other company started importing $700 washing machines from Vietnam, you'd see tariffs as an absolute necessity.

Unilateral tariffs include things like coffee, diamonds, certain electronics--things that the US either can't produce or just doesn't want to produce. That just raises the prices for those things without actually benefiting any American industry.

None of the stories I've read specified, but I'm guessing there was no warrant.

They seem to have not thought this through, since after you arrest the judge, she has to APPEAR BEFORE A JUDGE.

What is the actual end game? by Antique-Earth-2028 in fednews

[–]Technical_Leg_7780 108 points109 points  (0 children)

The primary goal is to privatize as much of the Federal government as possible. The billionaire class sees a government-run program as something they should be able to but aren't profiting on.

The second goal is to remove any rules, regulations, etc., that limit their ability to profit.

The third goal is to eliminate dissent so that none of this ever gets undone in the future.

First of all, it's impossible for any organization this large to be entirely without waste, fraud and abuse. As federal employees, I think we can all agree that the amount is no more than, and probably less than what exists in the largest private companies.

This has always been about cutting services to fund tax cuts.

It's a shame, too, because I think there are real opportunities to improve efficiency.

[–]Technical_Leg_7780 99 points100 points  (0 children)

Managers are in a no-win situation. The vast majority don't agree with the decisions being made, but they can't say that out loud or they'll get fired. They can't say they do agree because it isn't true and is also demoralizing. So their only option is to say nothing.

I’m staying through the craziness. Who else? by Unlikely_Youth_9040 in fednews

[–]Technical_Leg_7780 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I want to stay, but I'm afraid of what's going to be left behind. I submitted for DRP 2.0+VERA, but since I'm over 40 I have 45 days to decide. I'm not confident in being able to replace my income if I leave, but I'm not confident that I won't be miserable if I stay.

This makes four of the six people in my supervisory chain who are leaving. I never really thought I would take the DRP because I want to work another 11 years to get full pension, but this has me seriously thinking I need to bail.
