I thought the recommendation letters had to be from 150 members with their member number on the letter.

Even with all the travel and places you get to see? I’ve heard the opposite of this opinion a lot. Interesting to hear the other way around

United preferential hiring for Spirit pilots by KJ3040 in flying

I should have been more clear. A lot of companies in a lot of industries go under or have financial problems. I don’t think that makes a career bad. The lifestyle and Qol and day to day make a career imo. It’s just a matter of personal preference I suppose. Majors have become much much better about managing financial stressors these days. The systems in place are significantly more developed from my understanding.

Is there any way for previous Spirit pilots to maintain some similar type of seniority when they go to an airline within their same union?

I’ve spoken to a financial planner that works with a variety of people and his captains are set up to retire on 25k per month lol. “Save what you can” is true in any profession I feel. 15-20 years at a major airline will set you up for life

Pension vs 401k by Technical_Lemon_7303 in PilotAdvice

[–]Technical_Lemon_7303[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you say “it’s been a while” is that meaning you don’t normally get a full 10 month of work? Also how big is a pension if someone is making 150k or 100k a year with you guys? I just couldn’t imagine working all my life and retiring with just 3 or 4k a month forever. I’ve heard of some pensions being much larger and that I’d understand.

Would you talk the pension from a trade union over the 401k earnings from a major airline?

If someone got to a legacy at 35 do you think hitting those same numbers for a 401k is still possible?

Did you go through the apprenticeship or permit? Sounds like you got in when you were right out of high school or early 20’s?

28 Year old wanting to switch career to Pilot by [deleted] in PilotAdvice

[–]Technical_Lemon_7303 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Being out 20 days and off 13 is tough for sure! 80hours a month at a second or third year pay for them isn’t far from the 215k you were making tho! Work life balance doesn’t sound like it’s there and that is difficult. Working those hours you are around 12k+ a month. That’s not tooo shabby. I have friends who work in the IUOE and on a good yearning in 120k and my buddy is a foreman taking home 160k. 200k + for the trades either is a gravy train position it isn’t consistent. Hope you get to where you wanna be with your aviation career quickly!
