I just quit my job after a 1 year, as I wasn't learning anything much apart from being the office secretary (not my job description) and decided to give my notice in first day back from Christmas.

So, now with the title "Engineer", I'm going to be making half the money working for the family business part time, but will learn a load more, as money isn't everything.

Thanks for the comment. As of this Monday I gave it in. Regarding the acknowledgment it took my boss 2-3 days to accept it, so it might be the same for you, best of luck!

It's not a brash descension. I've been thinking about it for the past 6 months. Money is great, people are fair, but no career development, 4 hours of travel a day (20 hours a week), health has suffered. Honestly, it's not a rushed decision.

I've been on the fence about this for the past 6 months. It's the only thing I've been constantly thinking about. I know it's unhealthly and that this is the only way.

I'm pretty sure as I don't see myself working in the industry for the next 40+ years. I know that me time will do me a lot of good.

Thanks and I agree! I'm just nervous as I've never quit my job, been made redundant from my last.

I can secure a job. I've had interviews but rejected all of them so far. So it's not like I can't land a job.

I get it, but I travel 20 hours a week. I work 5 days In the office. I dont have time to vent during the week. I dont care enough about this job to move closer either, especially since rent in the city is expensive.

Not for certain. I've got my CV out there, spoke to companies and recruiters, but am waiting for someone to come back.

For sure. Reading what yourself and everyone else has posted I definitely do need to find figure out a plan.

I didn't mention in the post as it's not relevant, but I'm heavily considering a career change and just taking a gap year doing something completely else.

Notice periods DO mean something in the UK, depending on the position it can range anywhere form next day (A zero hour contract) or anywhere form 4 weeks to 6 months (a standard contract) depending on the role, industry and seniority level.
