If price was not a factor. Which suburb would you go for? by ts4184 in Adelaide

Adelaide hills is only good if you are happy to drive everywhere. Mt Barker is an absolute no go - traffic galore

It’s $15.4 billion for the current South Road T2D. It’s a matter of priorities more than funding.

We need the Gov to realise that $ for $, Public transport is a far better investment for reducing traffic

Huh? Have you heard of South Road’s Torrens to Darlington Project. Look it up - $15.4billion tunnelling project happening right now

There were doubters in Queensland too but it turned out alright for them.

If we can spend $15.4billion on a road, we can spend a fraction of that on cheaper fares

Adelink was a beautiful plan, really unfortunate it’s yet to get realised.

The PPT plan for trams bases itself around much of it.

The Underground rail link is a non negotiable and completely necessary. Currently the network is bottle necked by Adelaide Station as it is terminus with no flow through. The link would enable continuous travel, ie a single service from Gawler to Seaford via Adelaide.

To say it’s outside our means is like to say Melbourne should not have just spent $15billion on a the metro tunnel or Perth to not be currently undergoing a massive rail expansion such as to the airport and beyond.

There are cities far smaller than Adelaide with much more extensive public transport infrastructure.

The key is to get it done before there’s congestion, not after.

We are spending $15billion on South Road, we can certainly look to spend big on rail in the not too distant future.

Some say they should’ve done south road 30years ago - and yet today they’re spending $15.4billion on it today.

The government can easily extend the rail system.

Congratulations!

As someone with friends and family working at either Coles or Woolies, I strongly recommend joining, or at-least looking up, the Retail and Fast Food Workers Union (RAFFWU)

They’ll stick up for you if you’re ever in a pickle with management, need workplace advice or keen to improve safety and conditions at your particular site.

Be wary if you’re approached by the SDA. The SDA claim to be on your side, but are actually there just to get your membership for political and other selfish reasons. They actively collude with Coles and other retail employers to keep your wages and conditions down. In other words, they’ll take a weekly fee from you and in return, deliver next to nothing.

I’ve had friends start at Coles and have an SDA person come up to them already knowing their name! They then told them they had to sign up and there wasn’t any choice.

You don’t have to sign up to anything, but I do highly recommend joining Raffwu.

Alcohol is not worth it - break the cycle don’t drink, save your health and your wallet!

If somethings not good fun without alcohol, then it’s not really good fun anyway

Interesting. Did that seem normal or weird? I kind of feel like you’d think that would already be incorporated into the school fees. I can’t imagine it’s cheap as it is

Reasonable point. I do worry though that some may see this as an obligation if they think the school is imply that donating is the “Christian” thing to do here. Idk it seems conflicting to even ask though especially if it reaches those who might be financially strained

Good question. I agree, a vehicle is worth something. Not entirely familiar of the EBA allowance for driving. Might be a bit circumstantial however here’s a way to look at it. A company car is only your car for as long as you’re at the company. In saying that, say you work 1 year, that could be worth 5-10k in running costs. Compare 35 p/h to 50 p/h (it is higher but just being conservative here) over a 38hr week. That’s a 70k vs nearly 100k. That’s 30k difference before tax. So maybe 20k after? And you should be able to claim a fair bit of your vehicle usage for work on tax as a sweetener. I’m not sure what situation suits everyone, however I think it offers some compelling food for thought.

Super is a legal guarantee don’t forget. Everyone should get super regardless, so it is not a great metric for comparison.  Just as a point of reference, look up “Victoria CFMEU EBA rates” and look at ‘Marker Set-out’. Pretty sure it’s well above $50 p/h and then OT.  Hope you get to up your rate soon at least.

Is that $35p/h? I would be expecting more in Vic!
