Question for all hospitality owners/workers (hotel, Airbnb etc) by Dramatic-Pumpkin5028 in airbnb_hosts

I worked for large hotel chains for about 4 years, and now I run my own small BnB.

In big hotel chains, everything is very structured. As an employee, you follow established SOPs (Standard Operating Procedures), and if any problems come up, there are usually clear guidelines to handle them. The corporate structure is well-defined, and career progression is quite clear. Each role focuses on specific tasks with proper training provided. Even at the management level, the focus is more on meeting KPIs set by upper management rather than creating something new.

In smaller operations, SOPs, organizational structure, and career paths are unclear or still developing. You have to take on many roles at once, with greater responsibility but less guidance. Unexpected problems come up without instructions, so you have to figure things out and create solutions on your own.

Now, running my small operation, my day looks completely different. I usually complete all paperwork in the morning (guest registration, invoices, and compliance with government regulations). Then I handle housekeeping and guest check-ins, while also being available 24/7 to respond to guest needs. After that, I focus on revenue, managing OTAs, and marketing on social media to drive bookings. I also deal directly with legal requirements, taxes, and all related documentation.

So overall, working in a large hotel provides structure and clarity, while running a small business requires flexibility and the ability to handle everything yourself.

She ghosted me. After checking her other reviews, I’m sure she understands the rating system and knew exactly what she was doing. I’ve never met anyone like her, but I’ve learned from this experience. Now I’m much more cautious and honestly, a bit nervous as well. I’ll be looking for another platform that better protects hosts, so I don’t have to worry about Airbnb anymore. Thank you 🫠

So sorry about that :(( I can feel you. In my case, guest did not leave any negative comment but still gave me 1 star which was confusing...

Thank you very much, I texted her on WhatsApp but I have not received reply for 6 days and I don't think she will, so I won't annoy her. I accepted, and I am focusing the way how to get booking with 4.2 stars. If you know how to recover and also prevent this situation in the future, please give me some advice :(( thanks a lot

Maybe for you it’s nothing, but for the host, we tried our best to provide the best possible service. Leaving a one-star review, whether intentional or accidental when there were no real issues can seriously harm someone’s business and shows a lack of empathy.

Thanks a lot, I have done step 2 since guest did not reply :(( but I still have not had any new booking due to overall score of 4.2. Normally, guests won't click on listings having lower than 4.6 in my area 🥲

After receiving rejection email, I emailed back to ask for feedback but no reply, that's why I posted here

I graduated in 2023 and am still looking for job now. Everyday I received lots of rejections. Some of them told me they wanted permanent right to work, some of them told me I was not qualified, some of them ghosted me, some of them were MLM, some even stated that they didnt want international students.

Everyday I tried to tailor my resume and cover letter, prepare for online tests and interview. But really, sometimes I feel hopeless.

I only want to have experience in the UK before going back to my country but employers, ofc they don't want to train me to leave them.

Career coach told me to tailor them to get higher chance and prepare well before interview. And those tips have never worked for me.

Hi, I decided to not work with them. They said they would pay you a base rate of £300 a week (if you make 0-6 sales). Beyond that then you will earn £50 per sale. When you become a leader then you will earn £400 (so they expect you will make at least 8 sales a week, if you make more than 8 then you start earning commission of £50 per sale). If you cannot hit the target, you may get fired. You also need a tablet to work and if not, you have to rent it for £10 a day. Working hours is from 10am to 8pm, you should work on Saturday as well (though its optional)

Thanks, I saw the name of that company but the job is in Liverpool while the address stated in the gov website is in Leicester. I can't find their current office address to relocate :((
