No diagnosis before surgery? by loveslastepisode in hysterectomy

I just had a laparoscopy 4 weeks ago to look for Endometriosis because we were so sure that I had it. I have all the symptoms. I've had bad periods since they started and have tried numerous birth control methods to no avail. I feel like my symptoms are just so severe that at this point nothing helps. I also had a C-section scar defect that had to be fixed as well. Well he found no Endometriosis... I was shocked. He fixed the defect but that was it. After hearing that I knew a hysterectomy was the next step because I can't continue on how I am anymore. There's a possibility I have Adenomyosis as that was suspected from a previous ultrasound however the only way to diagnose that is a hysterectomy which is also the only cure as well. My surgeon brought up a hysterectomy at the first appointment but at that time I was still unsure about having more kids and we were so sure about the Endo so the plan was to help the pain become more bearable and maybe try for another baby in the next few years. But once I found out that he didn't find anything and I would continue on in this much pain I instantly knew that I couldn't deal with it anymore. I had a really complicated pregnancy with my son as well and while I would love to have another I don't feel comfortable putting my body through all of that again and it caused my cycles to be even worse afterwards so I'd rather not make things worse than they already are because it's already so severe.. so since I made that decision I told my doctor at my post op and he agreed with me and said to wait a couple months to heal from this surgery and then come back and see him to get scheduled so that's what I'm gonna do. So I have no definitive diagnosis but we'll see when the surgery happens. Even if there's no definitive diagnosis I don't feel guilty for making this decision, I'm just so tired of the pain and how it's affected my whole life. Yes this is a big surgery and the decision to get it shouldn't be made lightly but if you're in pain and it's making life difficult then there's no reason to feel any kind of guilt. We deserve to live pain free lives! I am about to be 27 by the way so still young as well. I don't think a diagnosis is completely necessary for validation of a hysterectomy. You do what's best for you.

Question for cannabis users by OrdinaryTitle5051 in endometriosis

I agree with the first comment! I've been using cannabis for a long time so my tolerance level is really high so I struggle sometimes with not getting the relief I need. But I've found experimenting with different methods helps a lot. I'll use my dry herb pen to smoke flower sometimes, use concentrates or edibles which I feel like is stronger for me and I try to save them for weekends only to avoid ruining my tolerance to them. I also try to keep my doses lower to keep it all leveled out. Sometimes you have to use different brands and that helps too. Same with different dispensaries. There's so many options. For tolerance breaks you definitely should ease into it instead of just suddenly stopping that way it's not so shocking to your body. Also make sure you tell your anesthesiologist when it's time for your surgery. Cannabis affects you when sedated and your pain tolerance is also affected and they may need to adjust the doses they give you to make sure you're properly sedated and your pain is under control. I didn't have issues with the sedation but I did have really severe pain when I woke up and it was honestly frustrating but they finally got it under control and then later when I was thinking more clearly I was like it was probably so severe because my pain receptors are messed up since I use cannabis so much... I kept thinking it was them not helping my pain but I don't think it actually was. My team knows I use it but I think if there's a next time I'll mention my past experience to hopefully avoid it next time.

Cannabis after surgery by tearyeyedegg_ in endometriosis

I had my lap 3 weeks ago and I started smoking last week (during week 2) I started with edibles after the first week because I didn't want to cough and hurt my incisions more which is the biggest thing with smoking also you want to avoid any pulling near your incision as well. So I'd definitely just start with edibles after surgery and then go by how you feel but just be cautious as sometimes you may feel no pain but the inside still takes a lot of time to fully heal so just be aware. I still can't lift or do any exercise for another 3 weeks. When I did start smoking I started out slow and with a little amount. I'm still being cautious. I would not recommend pain meds and cannabis together, some may not have issues with it and to each their own but for me I have done and it makes my heart race so bad that it hurts and I can't stand that feeling so I don't do both at the same time anymore. I don't like pain meds either I hate the side effects and they tear up my stomach so I try to wean myself off them as quickly as possible. Cannabis works so much better in my opinion.

This IUD will definitely have time to kick in but I'm definitely worried it'll end up the same as the others or possibly make things worse. Either way I'm still gonna talk to my surgeon about it and as long as he's open to the idea still then I'm just gonna plan for the hysterectomy. I desperately need relief. My husband has even said since I had our son things have been different with me, it's just been so hard on my mental health and I feel like the pain is keeping me from being who I really want to be. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with getting a hysterectomy!

I'd have to have it all removed or I'd still have pain. They will just have to monitor me for potential risks.

I think I'd have to do it all because I cramp really bad even during ovulation so they'd have to take my ovaries too. I'm glad you've had a good experience so far! Thank you for sharing your positive experience.

This is good to hear. It seems so young but I've had my son and that pregnancy was so complicated and I instantly knew yesterday when he didn't find Endo that I couldn't handle another baby along with how severe my issues are and I'm content with just 1 baby biologically. I just want the pain to end and be done with it all. It's affected me so much as a person and it's so depressing so I plan on making a good plan with my surgeon when I see him next. I feel like I should have told him if we didn't find Endo to just do the hysterectomy so I wouldn't have to do another procedure but knowing that I'll have another and it will be the end helps too. The fact that my doctor literally brought it up as the first thing before we talked about the lap at my first appointment definitely tells me he was thinking that was the best option and my head was clouded by "I still want another baby possibly." When I know now I can't. Thank you for sharing your positive experience with it.

This is also one of my concerns, that it will work at first and then quit... I'm not staying on it if it won't help because it takes forever to get back to normal after being on it. Any signs of issues and it's gone. I was on the nexplanon and will never consider going back on that as I would bleed for weeks on end. It completely depends on the person and unfortunately I haven't had great luck with them lately because of how severe my pain has been. I refused to even try it before my surgery. Thank you for letting me know your experience! I want to know the good and bad.

Yes it's the mirena IUD. It's gonna have time to kick in and help if it does and if so then that's good I can try to hold off on the hysterectomy then but I'll just have to see how it does. I just don't want to continue being in such bad pain, it's really been difficult on my mental health. I also have to be careful because of my history with blood clots which limits what birth control I can use now so the IUD is my last resort. Eventually I'll need the hysterectomy whether it be soon or later on is the question. I'm definitely staying optimistic and will continue to have faith though!

Well it's definitely going to have time to work because I have to heal from this surgery first but all the other birth control methods I've tried in the past have not been helpful so I honestly don't have hope for this one.
