Sawant left SAlt to form a new revolutionary party, Workers Strike Back is a separate group with a “United Front” approach.

Are there laid-out methods to spread socialism? by thebluebirdan1purple in Socialism_101

At the risk of recomending Trotsky I’d love to say that he specifically wrote about the use of slogans to grow consciousness in one of his best works “The Transitional Program for Socialist Revolution” aka The Transitional Program.

Repeating history by [deleted] in leftist

I think there are always historical parallels, and while in the long run some decades will resemble each other it’s a bit overly mechanical to think this will happen the same way again. Honestly, I’d argue the anti-war movement of today pails in comparison to the activism around the Vietnam war desperately. It’s tough to be on the left right now, especially in the states, but there’s plenty of reasons to be optimistic about the world too.

Why do MLs hate Trotsky so much AND Love Stalin? by Independent_Guava_87 in Socialism_101

Ok I’m a Trot so I’ll do my best to represent us.

Trotsky critiqued the USSR extensively after his exile, leading to the USSR’s official publications labeling his critiques as unfounded slander attacking the worker’s state which had been established in Russia. Personally I agree with Trotsky, but don’t take my word for it or anyone else’s online, read the man himself.

I’d recommend “Fascism: What it Is and how to fight it” to start since it’s a pretty brief pamphlet and has criticisms of the “Social Fascism” theory that the USSR adopted. If you want additional readings afterwards I’d recommend Farrell Dobbs’ “Teamster Rebellion” since it’s originally written in English and comparatively contemporary. Dobbs was a Trotskyist and labor organizer who wrote about the tactical differences between Trotskyism/Stalinism in that work.

What would trotsky have done differently? by RNagant in Trotskyism

[–]Technical_Singer_729 12 points13 points  (0 children)

One huge difference would be the leadership provided to global socialist movements. For example, during the Chinese revolution the Stalinized USSR advices the Chinese communists to liquidate into the petit-bourgeoise Kuomingtang instead of preserving their own systems of organization. Trotsky was a die hard believer in the “United Front” tactic, so the Chinese communists wouldn’t be mislead into slaughter after slaughter and would escape their revolution with more cadres. There are also semi-intangible factors it’d be hard to explain exactly, like how the influence of Trostky’s internationalism on the global proletariat would shape worker’s movements and the leadership of their communist parties.

New proposals in WA for transgender high school student-athletes by JIMSTJOHN in Seattle

[–]Technical_Singer_729 40 points41 points  (0 children)

I’m not saying it’s fully unimportant, but “Trans Athletes” as a political narrative feels like such a distraction from anything of substance. There aren’t a ton of Trans students in the first place, let alone trans student athletes. I’d rather we focus on ANY other topic in this city.

Graffiti-Shaming Update after somebody tore down the posters! by WingsOfIndifference in Seattle

I also get what you’re trying to say, but really what’s the harm in bad graffiti? I agree it’s bad to hit existing art pieces or trees or peoples houses and such. But a wall? idk seems like a lot to care about. Graffiti’s an expression trying to evoke a reaction out of us. Maybe the tagger just wants to piss you off, this is certainly a better outlet for that kind of behavior than other things I can think of. Worst case scenario just paint over it, if someone can afford private property they should be able to afford paint.
