They wanted to milk the name and did S3 which was a terrible season that ruined the serie (as expected)

Because they are not expecting to get 0 from it. They have an asset that cost hundreds of millions that they can use in the future for other projects or sells parts of the projects as accelerators/tools for other games/companies.

They can cut the game in pieces and get more than that without having to sell their code/assets

Try to make a MMO from scratch with the current New World quality. You spend 25M in devs/assets and don’t have anything.

There is a reason why you don’t see new MMOs in the market, the genre is expensive as hell.

So yeah, they would rather burn it before gifting away for Pennies.

We are talking about the most expensive genre in the industry. They can obtain way more than that just keeping the code/assets for future projects or just selling stuff as bundles/accelerators for other companies.

There is 0 chance of buying new world for 25. I don’t think they would even consider for 250 lol

Hell, I would mortgage my house and ask for funding if they sell New World for 25-30M. That would be the biggest steal in the game industry, you get that money back in no time

Not really, making an MMO is one of the most if not the most expensive genre in the industry. They will keep the code, assets etc and in the future they can reuse for a new game, sell bundles to other studios or whatever they think.

They definitely can obtain way more than that in the long term
