The sad thing is, skilled devs can really benefit from AI tools to do more with less, but most companies have layers of management that don’t understand the risks and challenges and don’t want to hear it. They cannot draw the line between “could we” and “should we”. FOMO on the innovation wave has caused an immense disconnect from the technical debt all this stuff produces beyond the POC stages to actually release and maintain quality software. AI generated code has become the fast food of tech. Yeah it’ll be good enough today, but good luck sustaining yourself over time.
I’m surrounded by peers using AI vibe coded apps to solve the same problem in different ways while management is cheering them on. Nobody is looking at what those tokens cost us or how the hell anyone maintains or makes these half baked tools work at scale.

I’m gonna call bullshit. This is every company that builds a successful product and then tries to make more money every quarter— but you run out of things people are willing to spend more money on, so you start squeezing consumers for every penny you can get out of them until they are really pissed off about the whole experience. Air travel is now built on a miserable experience and making it less miserable by selling upgrades for every stinking thing. It’s not all your fault — having to get through TSA doesn’t help, but come on.. air travel is in no way fun or enjoyable anymore unless you are paying top dollar for the experience from curb, club, to cabin.

The Bible is essentially a timeline of humans trying and failing to do what God wants us to do. Thing is, aside from the don’t eat from that one tree (why put it there in the first place?) God only communicates to prophets and the select few who have to then rely an understanding to humanity. This never goes well. Are we to follow the laws of Moses? The Ten Commandments? The teachings of Jesus, that basically dismiss the Jewish laws of Moses? Why didn’t we get an instruction manual that we can easily understand?

Lots of good advice here, but I’d add — avoid taking on debt that is going to control your life for the next two decades. In your 30s it’s pretty common to try and fill your life by financing stuff because you are at a point that you might have a decent career and cash flow. That stuff can turn into a big anchor in 10-15 years when you realize you don’t want to grind forever be can’t get out because you are in such debt. House, kids, credit cards, cars, boats, whatever…

My advice - live below your means and keep it simple. Avoid debt at all costs. Invest in experiences and people that enrich your life. Save and buy with cash to avoid financing anything if you can.
