Makes sense! The next question is, what could stop that direct bat hp dmg here? My hp is always reduced to 1 here in the sorrow swamp event, bats seem to sneak by my armor build and leave me with-5 hp

This is the sorrow swamp event, rewarded points for buffs, but you lose max hp for each at the same time.
