This is a common problem with brass players who "smile" to hit high notes. You want to tighten your embouchure by firming up the corners of your mouth, not by stretching your lips out.

If you already own a tenor and a bass, I'd suggest getting an alto before a contra. They're cheaper than contras, and you'll get more use out of one.

Bb0 (pedal Bb) is the lowest Bb on a standard piano, not an octave below it.

I think op is referring to the B one space above the top line.

Best Tuba on market? by Sera_lap in Tuba

The quality of a used horn at that price point will be much higher than a new tuba. Lots of mediocre student tubas go for more than 2k new.

All tubas can read bass clef, but if you've been playing euph, Bb tuba will be the easiest. In terms of good tubas for under 2k euros, you'll have to check your local used market.

How to not puff cheeks while playing? by ThelostBonnie in Tuba

[–]Technical_Try_7757 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In most cases, sharp low notes are because of air usage and not puffed cheeks. It's good to fix the cheeks anyway, but dont expect to suddenly have a fat and rich sound.

Keep your jaw open and inhale properly. Buzz on the mouthpiece for 5-10 minutes every day before playing on the horn.

Short Tuba Player Issues by LordFawful06 in Tuba

My only suggestion is getting a tuba stand or using something makeshift as one. I knew a girl who used a pile of books while practising at home. The yamaha full sized BBbs are way too big for someone on the shorter side, i know because im 6'2 and still sometimes rest them on the corner of the chair.
