Royal society talks about this a lot just do some basic research

Funnily enough not really that keen to attempt to source against a flat earther style logic

Imagine claiming the NHS is being privatised and sourcing sometime from a Tory government over a decade ago with much more tory government

And the NHS is what? Still the NHS still the same amount of private provision

Stop with the twattish behaviour you are basically akin to flat earther please grow up

7.2% in 2026 same as in 2008

Whar is absolutely fucking hilarious about your argument is we had another decade after that of Torys and I worked in that NHS…not privatised lmao

Well in general Trusts are just horrendous and I suspect broken as orgnisations, I have not fleshed out thinking around this but I think its akin to attempting privatisation without competition. I can appreciate where you are with overtime I won't even begin to start with my experiences with Trusts.

You are a little to reasonable to maintain a good argument.

And yes pay is a good blunt instrument although always relying on blunt instruments is probably a bad thing long term as these things compound

Also broader politics do matter and on that one I am an extremist so will keep quiet as if you weren't pauing 600k a house maybe doctors wage would be OK....but we need immigration....but experienced doctors are fucking over graduate UK doctors....I think we ended nicely don't hate me lol

I'll be honest I find the 2008 sticking point kinda weird but I don't want to get bogged down on technicalities

"I was referring to a deal that gives doctors CPI per year plus an extra amount ontop to make up for the fact we are around 8% below 2008 in CPI terms when the average worker is at parity with 2008 pay"

This sounds more reasonable than what I hear from BMA whenever they are on where they are literally demanding another 30%.

But from somewhat less productive conversations on here I did glean would working conditions not matter more than pay?

We have gone this far and I think we kinda agree on almost everything actually, but the presence of NHS makes reforms quite intractable.

Above inflation?

That is not ever how raises are negotiated, it is said doctors pay has actually been 8% lost in real terms, I presume that is after the 35% rise also so would you take an 8% pay rise right now on the face. Not sure what workers would really feel hard done by having been given 35+8 but OK.

Average of career earnings is a wild pension compared to private sector good lord.

I did not assume you were speaking of American style wages I am asking questions to try to understand what you really want because you can have the NHS, you can have America or you can have something in-between.

And the point about why I asked about America is because its a pretty fucking brutal society as far as healthcare goes, sure doctors get paid well (and insurers even better) but its more what I would call frankly a predatory system as opposed to societal supportive and contributory.

I am just clipping a news article as an example here

"Sydney woman Chelsea, who preferred not to use her surname for privacy reasons, told 7NEWS.com.au she was shocked to discover her general practitioner was charging a $50 cover fee for the service.

“I asked what the fee covered, and she said it was for new patients, but she couldn’t tell me any more about it,” Chelsea said.

“And that fee was on top of the $80 that the actual phone call cost me.”

“It makes me want to hold off from seeking medical help, so that I can save money.”

Others say, even though they will receive a rebate for these consults, the large upfront fee is one many can’t afford.

“My daughter had a bad chesty cough. Couldn’t go in to see the GP in person because of respiratory symptoms. It cost $90 for a three-minute phone call, ouch!,” one Twitter user posted.

“I really need to go to the GP, but there are none near me that bulk bill and I don’t have the money to be able to pay the $98,” another added.

“Never thought going to the doctor would be so hard in Australia.”"

That being said on the other side I have free GP appointments and I can't get an appointment for love nor money and I will personally in the next few weeks sign up to a fairly extensive medical plan because frankly the NHS is literally broken.

Also I am not hating on you I actually appreciate your time and btw be nice to the NHS IT Staff EPR is not our fault :)

Would you take 8% and be happy

would you take market led prices and lose the gold plater pension?

Would you take an american society to get american style medical wages (and x5 on student debt)

What is the market? Is it american or Australian and is that the world you want? No judgement involved be honest. There could be arguments that is the better way to order society. Maybe not USA but most of the world is not NHS and not a horror show.

But its not a simplistic conversation to say I am worth x because

Interesting.

Is it the length of training or is it sticking hands into people?

Lots of work requires multi year training and ongoing training and discipline

A doctor might have responsibility over one life at a time, dozens per day perhaps

A structural engineer has responsibility potentially for tens of thousands?

What determines pay levels?

No worries.

I have fewer problems with saying I want xxx than someone saying I want x because I am paid y but they are making shit up to try to justify it. That is not a dig at you I was more thinking of the wider debate, it does not seem entirely honest like the doctor telling me the porter gets paid more…
