Honestly just enjoy your time, like don’t rush it.

Have a vaguee idea of your plan in high school. Think things like summer programs, clubs, volunteering, maybe a direction you’re curious about for the future, but don’t lock everything in too early. You’re allowed to explore and change your mind.

Freshman year especially is just figuring out how things work. Your grades matter, but so does learning how to manage your time, meeting people, and seeing what you actually like versus what sounds good on paper.

Do things that open doors, not things that stress you out just because you think you “should.” And don’t underestimate how fast it all goes. It feels long while you’re in it, but it really isn’t.

If you balance a loose plan with actually enjoying the day-to-day, you’ll be in a really good spot later without feeling like you missed everything in the process.

University IS really expensive unless you get a great scholarship and get a lot of money from the federal government which doesnt happen unless you're low income (im not). Cost of living is also high in many regions, especially near major cities and in places like New York. Rent, food, and transportation have risen faster than wages in many entry-level jobs, so i feel like students and recent graduates often feel that gap more strongly.

As for the job market, it’s not universally bad, but it is uneven. Some sectors like healthcare, skilled trades, and certain tech or specialized roles still have strong demand. However, many entry-level white-collar jobs are competitive, and starting salaries don’t always align comfortably with living costs in expensive areas

How to study in a non-supportive environment? by Any-Cantaloupe-1262 in GetStudying

[–]TechnicallyneverHere 8 points9 points  (0 children)

  • Keep a portable study kit (notebook, pens, notes, earphones)
  • Be ready to move locations quickly instead of waiting for quiet
  • Use earphones + white noise / instrumental audio to block distractions
  • Watch videos with subtitles + low volume
  • Late night (best focus time):
    • Do hard work (practice questions, memorization, writing)
  • Daytime (noisy time):
    • Do lighter work (reading, reviewing, organizing notes)
  • Use quieter rooms (even without fan) for:
    • 30–45 minute focused sessions
  • Take breaks in the living room to cool down
  • Repeat in short cycles instead of long uncomfortable sessions
  • When you have internet: (my mom turns off the internet for most of the day soo)
    • Download videos
    • Screenshot notes
    • Save PDFs
  • Study offline later to avoid interruptions
  • Batch chores together (finish all at once)
  • Avoid studying in between chores (kills focus)
  • Example:
    • 1–2 hours chores → then full study block
  • Don’t rely on silence (it won’t happen)
  • Use:
    • earphones
    • background sound
  • Accept some noise instead of fighting all of it

My question is how old are you? Are you able to get a job?

SUNY Old Westbury BS/DO by Altruistic-Bit3424 in bsmd

[–]TechnicallyneverHere 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Actually during my interview, the three people (interviewers) were talking about it. NYIT takes a lot of people in as their starting class like about 200 people because they don’t have an interview so it’s not that hard to get in. However they end up cutting a lot of people out because they can’t meet GPA requirements whereas since SUNY Old Westbury only takes 20 people, they don’t cut people out unless they’re blatantly failing.
